Eberron Unlimited install problems in Crossover Games 8.0.0

So I'm trying to install the latest DDO installer (ddosetup.exe) which installs the necessary client for Eberron Unlimited. Running the installer from CXG produces the following error:

image

The file exists at the path specified, but appears to be useless. Other forums recommend installing .NET 3.5 , but this is obviously not an option for anyone using CXG. Any thoughts/ suggestions?

I believe this is still accurate.. from the tips & tricks tab on this entry: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=4048;tips=1

Next you need to download http://www.lotrolinux.com/fakeNET11.reg and use regedit to add the registry hack.
This fools the installer into thinking that .NET 1.1 is installed, if you skip the hack the installer tries to install
.NET 1.1 and fails.

Once you get past this hurdle, make sure you are using pylotro or lotrolinux as your launcher, as the regular ddolauncher wont work.

Well, don't be hoping for it to work at the moment. I tried, and pyLotro doesn't work with Eberron Unlimited.

I already contacted the developer and he is looking for fixes.

lotrolinux is working fine for me.. I'm even getting sound despite having pulse audio on my system. (Mic/voice don't work still).

Well, good if LotroLinux works, but PyLotro doesnt.

Anyway, I've been messing up with the source code and I found a fix. I'll send it now to the developer.

Glad to hear it. Alan's very good at maintaining PyLotro.

I was planning to test drive DDOU later today, after having great success with LOTRO. ...but it looks like all is not perfect in DDO. :(

Some things from LOTRO that -might- be helpful:

  • The fakenet hack is no longer needed for the install of LOTRO.
  • The install of LOTRO will still generate errors, but only related to .NET and affects only the Launcher/patcher (which isn't used anyway).
  • The Windows version of PyLOTRO is required for the Mac version. Has anyone tried the in-bottle Windows PyLOTRO vs the native Linux version?

Of course, emphasis on "might" 😀 What works for LOTRO/Mac may not apply to DDO/Linux. Just a suggestion.

Also, random throught... Has anyone tried to install DDO into the same bottle as a functional LOTRO install?

Alan just posted a new thread - the fix is in the newest pylotro: http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=4048;forum=1;msg=61254

So I updated PyLOTRO to 0.1.11 and tried installing DDO:EU again, but came up with the same error shown in the original post. And with the latest version of CXG (8.0.0), .NET 1.1 is already "installed" in new bottles, it seems. At least, it's listed in the Installed Applications in the Bottle Manager.

Am I missing something completely silly?

Okay, so I got it going in a roundabout way... I installed DDO Mod8, then replaced the patchclient.dll with one from my roommate's fully patched version of DDO, and only then would PyLOTRO launcher let me patch my install. Logged in successfully and started playing! Runs very well on a new MacBook Pro 13".

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Cheers,
randy

Hello,

I ran into a problem as I tried to install this and hope you can help me figure out where I went wrong:

[I'm using Crossover Games 7.1.1 in Leopard]

I downloaded the game files and transferred them onto the Mac,
let Crossover create a win2000 bottle and installed the game using the ddosetup.exe.
Then I downloaded PyLOTRO 0.1.11 and installed this into the same bottle.
The list of installed applications in the bottle manager then looked like this:
Crossover HTML engine
Microsoft DirectX Runtime (Download)
Microsoft DirectX Runtime
Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited
Microsoft .NET framework 1.1
PyLOTRO 0.1.11

Next I tried to launch PyLOTRO via the Programs menu and got the following error in the launcher window:

Initialising, please wait...
[E01] Error loading settings
[E13] Game Directory not found
[E02] No language files found.

I tried to place the PyLOTRO files directly into the DDO folder and ran pylotro-exe via "Run command ..."
and I tried to replace the patchclient.dll with the same file from a patched (PC) install.
But I kept getting the same error message.

Did I do something wrong or miss a step?
Any help or suggestion would be very welcome!

Many thanks in advance,
Alyce

You will get that error if PyLOTRO cannot find the game files. There is a settings wizard (?) in the menu that will scan automatically for the appropriate directory. Select the game from the menu and let it search.

(I can't remember the exact wording, but it should be apparent :) )

Woah, that was quick! And it brought me one step further, thank you. =)

I found the Settings Wizard and now it finds the files and says this:
Initialising, please wait...
Available languages checked.
Fetched details from GLS data centre.
Realm list obtained.
World queue configuration read

But when I tried to connect it only brought up an otherwise empty window titled "Output" that only said " Finished " - the same that comes up when I tried to let it patch via that option from the menu.

Are there any other things I need to set?
Like enable Virtual Desktop from the winecfg? And give this some defined resolution?
(the one my Mac normally uses is 1440 x 900)
Or do something to the UserPreferences.ini ?

There shouldn't be anything else to be set/tweaked.

Do you have an active DDO account? If you go the account management website, and you don't see DDO listed there... that'll be a problem. :)

Um, when I said

"But when I tried to connect it only brought up an otherwise empty window titled "Output" that only said " Finished " - the same that comes up when I tried to let it patch via that option from the menu."

I meant that I did enter an account name and pass what was working on a PC,
but there was no window coming up that looked like the actual game interface.

I wanted to add some more helpful info. If you want to install DDO without copying the Windows install, use the Stormreach Mod8 installer and then update to Eberron from there. I've tested it using Crossover Games 8 and it works like a charm.

DDO Eberron Unlimited installs just fine if you install from the full download version and not the streaming downloader.

I had the same issue. What caused this was a borked install via Crossover. When I copied over that install with an installation folder from a Vista machine, I could then run the update, then finally log in and game on :D

I have a very, very similar problem, but a little weirder (I think). Here is what I receive when starting up PyLotRO client:

Initialising, please wait...
[E13] Game Directory not found
Available languages checked.
Fetched details from GLS data centre.
Realm list obtained.
World queue configuration read

So what I'd like to know is how in the world can it find the languages, and GLS data stuff, Realm lists, etc, if it can't find the game directory?! I had to manually put in my game directory since the wizard doesn't do anything for me (nothing at all happens when I choose ddo and hit "find games" - for that matter, the patch isn't patching either but I'd like to have the client not give me errors first) Also funny how it even authenticates my account when I put in my name and pw (but no game pops up) SIGH
I know I'm missing something, but I can't imagine what. I've double and triple checked everything. I even compared every ddo file in wine to my windows one to be sure I didn't miss something when transferring.

I have looked at every step-by-step and read countless forums and I've been at this at least 10 hours (don't ask lol). I'm not finding a solution to my issue anywhere - I'm sure it's something ridiculous I've overlooked. Any help or insight would be fabulous. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and Wine 1.1.37. I copied my Turbine/DDO folder from my Windows box to my dell inspiron e1405 laptop into my /.wine folder. I installed pylotro inside Wine. If this isn't enough I'll go searching on how to "properly" report? my issue so the super(computer)users can help me and understand my problem.

Thank you. God, it's 4am, I shall sleep now before I -rm f or something similar (or engage in more wordplay, :P. )

P.S. I hope this is an ok forum for my issue? I think it's pretty darn related - it's the best I could find while my eyes were crossing.
