I've been running DDO on my Mac thru CX since the beginning of 2010 on this same MacBook.

MacBook stats:
2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
2gb DDR3
Operating system updated systematically from 10.5 to current 10.7.3.

I've always been able to play DDO regardless of my internet connection.

Have updated CX games systematically with operating system and DDO. Current system:
Mac OSX 10.7.3
CSX 10.3.0

Everything worked fine (occasional random crashes aside, as per usual the past few years) using tethered, wifi, or hardwired internet. Last update from 10.6.1 to 10.7.3 caused issue.

Now DDO only works via tethering (USB and/or WiFi thethering). Standard Wifi or hardwired, I crash after splash screen, before loading screen. No internet issues in any other way on computer (mail, firefox/safari/other programs). Tethering internet still runs game.

Reinstalled DDO via Crossties, still have same issue.

Hmm... strange. I'm connected via Wi-Fi (no tethering) and see no issue. (iMac 10.7.3, with both 10.3 and 11.0b1).
I have been playing LOTRO lately and only "log in" with DDO periodically, to keep my account and kin membership alive, and rarely move beyond the Pheonix Tavern where my toons are camped, except to the bank next door. But that all works as it has. I'm a VIP subscriber and do have the latest DDO version.

Lion itself does have an assortment of "issues." So I can believe that the "big" jump from 10.6.1 to 7.3 might have been problematic... I hit all the Apple updates to 10.6.8 before upgrading to Lion 7.0 in the Fall.

It does sound like a Lion issue, but I don't have any specific idea what -- My normal Wi-FI connection is via an Airport Extreme (which IS updated itself). I don't know enough about tethering as I don't use it, to venture any particular guesses as to what might be the issue. The only specific thing I can say is that Airport 6.0 is radically different from 5.6 and Apple provides a separate download (updated for Lion) for Airport Utility 5.6 on their website.
