I ended up doing a reinstall after my post in the previous thread. Again it seemed to download and patch smoothly. I get the cryptic loading screen, then the Neverwinter loading screen and then just a black screen with the NW version number at the top at which point my computer freezes entirely, even the time display! I've tried choosing both low graphics settings and default settings when prompted on log in but the result is the same either way. I've tried leaving it to see if it comes good but it stays stuck for hours.

I'm using the latest version of both crossover and the crosstie, but I have a MacBookPro5,5, nvidia GeForce 9400M, osx 10.6.8

I'd be grateful for any suggestions...

I know I'm having a conversation with myself here, but thought I'd post my solution in case it helps anyone else who comes along...

I had previously tried to upgrade to Mountain Lion with disastrous results, but I finally got around to doing a clean install and got 10.8.4 working - and now Neverwinter seems to run just fine

I did get NW working on my iMac, but its ancient and ran like crap.

That said, all I did do was use the crosstie, pointing it at the installer for windows I manually downloaded. After it got done installing, I went into the wine configurator and made it use a virtual workspace of 1920x1080 (screen size) and it works fine. Forget the res on my iMac, but all my Linux machines have a 1080p monitor attached so its an easy one to remember.

Also as a tip, turn off on demand patching :P Makes life a bit nicer.
