Ubuntu 10.04

Hi all,

I need a help. I have not problem with instalation, but I can not run this game. Have or know someone "how to" install and sucessfully play DK2?

Thanx for every help.

hi i am pretty sure i had no issues installing or running this game what version of crossover games are you using?

Alex

I use latest release: 9.0.0 CrossOver Games and I have fresh instalation of ubuntu 10.04.

If I install DK 2 instaler promt me for fixing flash and explorer. Then I can run setup and install the game. After successfully instalation I try to run DK2.exe and I get error by running it...

I had try to install DK2 under 9.0.0 CrossOver Games - XP box and win 98 box. The issue was the same.

I am realy confused now.

Peter

Hi,

I'm not confused by this behavior - it actually makes sense.

You might want to take a look over at the wineHQ page for this app;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3696

Let us know if none of that info is any help...

Cheers!

Hey thinking about it if it is crashing on load it could be due to DRM

Alex

I install DK2 once again. I run regedit and add this two lines in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. It didnt help.

I try to install DK2 under wine. Add HKEY_CURRENT_USER. And results was the same.

I dont know, what I doing wrong.

At the end I try to resize the windows. Didnt help too.

PS: Thank you all for help.

I would actually try -normal- crossover (not games) to check this ;

Use CXO-9.0.1 (grab the demo version if you don't own CXO), create a new
bottle and install IE7 (will pull in other deps) and then try installing
the game itself -- does this change the behavior at all? Let us know...

Thank you for next help.

I try it, but unfortunatly I go for holiday so I will by for 10 days quiet.

I let you know after it.

The result was the same:

"The program DKII.exe has encountered a sarious problem
and need to close. We are sorry for inconvenience."

"This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in
Wine. You may want to check
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility for tips about running
this application"

Have you any idea which can help me?

Or can you make "how to install Dunegon Keeper for Dummies" for me?

PS: I test the CD under windows vista. Install DK2 and try to play. There was no problem with game. But me problem with ubuntu 10.04 still hold.

This is what I'm starting to think as well (and why I referenced the winehq appdb page)
and it may actually be compounded somewhat by changes in the wine core code itself...ie;
I had one copy protection system break in cxg-9...

@Peter -- possibly the best thing to do would be gather a debuglog....see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/SubmitTechSupportLog

Upload the log to rapidshare or the like, and post the download URL back here
to others can grab it and have a look...

Cheers!

MD5: 6B3875026D49B344588EDDA1406A364C

OK, I run DKII.exe from DK2 bottle with creating log file. I hope that helps.

Cheers.

Hi,

Something weird with that rapidshare link, can't grab the logfile.

Could you try again please?

Cheers!

I try to download that file from rapidshare and it is everything OK. MD5 checksum is OK too.

Had I generatet wrong log file?

Cheers.

Hi,

No, you didn't do anything wrong....it's just rapidshare being silly
(it does it occasionally...it worked when I retried after a few hours) -
I'd say that our suspicion about it being DRM stopping it would be about
right going by that log...ergo, the following applies;

Cheers!

Then I understand your hint right, I should apply noCD-crack.

Yesterday I tried followings:

  1. Open http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=3696
  2. Create windows XP bottle
  3. run Setup.exe from CD
  4. run patch from recommended page
  5. run crack from recommended page
  6. edit regedit
  7. make DKii.exe runable
  8. run DKii.exe

and nothing happends. No error, but no play ☹️.

Tomorrow I try it one more time. Probabli I make somethere mistakes... but I think not.

Cheers.

So, I made one more try with intalling Dungeon Keeper 2 like I write in last entry and nothing happends.

Here is debug file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/404328452/DKii.debug.txt.html
MD5: 51800986C25B482D199260A67863C927

Can you help me why game did not start?

Thanks.

Cheers.

I had the same problem. Problem is: Dungeon Keeper 2 has copy proctection and Wine doesn't support it yet. (Wine bug 219).

Try using the patched DK2.exe from here: [link removed to comply with DMCA]
Just overwrite the DK2.exe in your Dungeon Keeper 2 bottle. It should work fine now.
