Welcome

I'll be installing DNS under CrossOver Office this week in Mepis Linux (Debian based install). I'll be testing it on my P4 1.5 Ghz 512 MB RAM. I'm in the process of migrating to a P4 3.0 Ghz 1 GB RAM, so hopefully I'll have results in both by the end of this week.

At that time I'll post a hardware/software list and progress.

Did you get Dragon working?

I only want to install Xandos, and Codeweaver for the purpose of using dragon.

Josh

Glad to see you here, days after getting my new P4 3 Ghz machine up and running, a lightening strike hit too close to my home, I'm just getting back up again.

I have Mepis, FC2 and Win XP on my machine, and I'm trying to get things worked out for installation, but haven't had much success yet.

More than a year later, you still trying to get your computer back up?

Hi all--

I got Dragon Naturally Speaking version 7.0 installed and working!

It doesn't work very well yet, but we go one step at a time, eh? Here are my notes on installation:

I recently upgraded to Crossover professional (3/2007), specifically to try to get some version of Dragon to work.

Failed Attempt - Dragon 9.1 in Win XP
I tried installing Dragon 9.1 into an unsupported Win XP bottle. No luck-- The installation log had several hundred lines of "fix me" messages and several thousand lines of cryptic things that might or might not have worked.
I installed Win Explorer 6.0 in a new Win XP bottle and tried again. Fewer fix me's and errors, but still the installation did not complete.

Successful installation of Dragon 7.0 Preferred
I made another Win 98 Bottle, installed Win Explorer 6.0 into it, and then installed
my copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking 7.0 Preferred into that bottle.
The installation completed!

Problems:
1) The Setup Routine.
I was able to complete the microphone level and quality check without difficulty.
However, the program hung while it was trying to scan my files and customize its vocabulary to mine.
As you may know, this is an important step for accuracy!
I made several tries at it, including backing down the 'Nice level' from Root, but without success.
I finally decided to skip scanning files, and try it out.--

2) Text processing difficulties
The dragon bar appeared but was much shorter than usual-- ie all options do not display on it--, and the microphone turned on and off. Sleep and wake up commands work. However, I was unable to get it to put text directly into MS Word 97 or 2003, Star Office, or Open Office.

3) Text Success with the Dragon Pad
I was not able to open Dragon Bar functions with the mouse-- However, verbal commands work, even though the Dragon Bar Menu does not display: I was able to open the Dragon Pad by saying;
"System Dragon Pad"
Once inside the Dragon Pad, Dragon Speaking 7 did a fair job of transcribing my voice into text.
I was able to block and copy text from the Dragon Pad into Open Office and Star Office documents--
So it works!!

4) Other Bugs Within the Dragon Pad environment

All is not rosy, even within the Dragon Pad--

As expected, there was an error about every 2nd sentence without
Voice correction does not work,
Example;.,
DS7 thought "Linux" was "Olympics." When I tried "Select Olympics," it selected well enough, but I got a cryptic error message and was unable to choose or spell the correction.

It may be possible to complete additional training or add words to the word list, if I can figure out how to get into the proper menu using only voice commands! I hope I still have my last Dragon 7 voice file backup somewhere-- That would really help the accuracy...

I was able to download the Dragon 7.3 Service pack update from the Nuance website, but my first try at getting it to upgrade the installation did not work.

Well, that's it for the preliminary report--
I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has gotten any version of Dragon to work with Crossover.

PS:
I did this on a P4 desktop running Xandros Linux 4 (Home Edition/Premium) with 1 Gig RAM, on a 250 GB HDD.
The PC is an old FIC clone I got from TigerDirect.
I used a microphone headset that came with Dragon 9.1.
