Portraits on OSX

Hi,

I'm running OSX 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard). My game is patched (1.04) and installed successfully. I've got sound and cutscenes. The game is working. But, I can't see the portraits of characters. They are transparent. I only can see their hair and eyes instead of their head.
I wish you could help me.

PS : I apologize for my english but I'm a young french boy. So, be gentle please 😉.

Hi Marin,

Did you install via the C4P file available on this website? Either way, I want you to try this trick:

Go to the Programs menu of Crossover, and select 'Run Command.' Type regedit in the box, and make sure the "Use Bottle" menu has your Dragon Age bottle selected. Then press run or hit enter. You will get a Registry Editor with a tree of folders on the left side. Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/AppDefaults/DAOrigins.exe/Direct3D/

With Direct3D selected, there should be keys that read StrictDrawOrdering = enabled and UseGLSL = enabled. If there is no entry for "DAOrigins.exe" under AppDefaults, you will need to create the entry. You can do this by selecting AppDefaults, then going to the Edit menu (in the registry window, not your OSX bar), and clicking "New Key." Name the new key DAOrigins.exe and then create a new key in it called Direct3D.

With Direct3D selected, go to the Edit menu and select New String Value. Name the string UseGLSL. Then right click it, and select Modify. In the box, type enabled and click okay. Repeat this process to make a String Value called StrictDrawOrdering. Then right click it, Modify, and type enabled.

Once you have made these changes, or have seen whether these values already exist, close the registry editor and try the game again. If you still have the same portrait problems, or are confused about how to edit the registry, let me know and I will provide you further assistance.

And don't worry, your English is great!

Best,

Nathan

I did what you say perfectly and I still have the problem.
I didn't install the game with the CP4 file. Should I try ?

Thanks a lot for helping me 😊.

Yes, I would suggest trying to install via C4P and see if you have any better success. It may make registry entries I've forgotten or download dependencies the game requires. And it's consistent, which makes troubleshooting a little easier. :P

Let me know how it works out.

EDIT: I might also note, before trying to install it via C4P, you might experiment with the video options in game. Sometimes disabling V-Sync or other rendering options can result in improved performance and graphic quality. I know there was a setting enabled that was making cutscenes fuzzy for me until I disabled it.

I've got the same problem as above. OS X 10.6.5, with Dragon Age downloaded from Steam. Adding the two registry entries above fixed the cut scenes, which weren't displaying any video, but the character heads are still transparent. They have floating hair and eyes, but no faces. Sometimes you can see a disembodied head floating a couple of metres above them, and there are a couple of weird graphical glitches (big triangles obscuring the view).

Hi,

Which model Mac/videocard do you have?

Cheers!

I've got a 24" iMac, with an ATI HD 2600 Pro. I managed to get the faces to appear by changing the graphics settings from Low to Medium (or Higher, but the game gets a big laggy on my box).

Thanks for the feedback and info -- just of late (last 6 months or so)
I've seen that scenario more than I have previously...ie; usually you
think you're doing the right thing by having the graphics settings set
low, only to discover that doing something counter-intuitive (setting
graphics to a higher setting) actually works....indeed, I've one title
here that won't start at all unless the graphics are set to maximum..
...go figure ;)

Good to hear you got it working...

Cheers!
