Updating to DA:O 1.04 (Mac)

Hi everyone,

I'm having some troubles running Dragon Age: Origins. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.5. I tried to install via the C4P file, which threw me Runtime Error R6034. Following instructions on another forum post, I added MSXML 3.0 and Visual C++ 2005. I ran the game and I got as far as the menu--I didn't try any further. Counting this as a success, I quit the game and applied the 1.04 patch ( at least I think I did. I'm not really sure how to patch from an .exe--do you run it as the installer to the game's bottle? That's what I did). Anyway, now trying to run the game results in the Runtime error (6034) once again.

I've seen others report success with running DA:O 1.04. Can someone please post instructions on how they did it or what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks.

Edit: My issue has been resolved.

Hi,

I have the same problem. How did you resolved It ?
Can explain step by step ?

Thanks by advanced.

Hi, sorry for the late response, I hope this is still helpful to you. First of all, have you attempted to install via CrossTie? They tend to be helpful and clear up a lot of issues. It also helps to know whether you have the DVD version or a digital/Steam copy. It's been a while since I had the issue, but here are the steps (as I remember them) to getting it working:

  1. Create a fresh bottle with the required dependencies.
  2. Install Dragon Age into the bottle. It will give you an error, most likely, at the end of install, but still should be considered successful.
  3. Run Dragon Age. It will give you a runtime error and refuse to run.
  4. Now patch to 1.04 by installing the patch into the bottle.
  5. Run Dragon Age again. This time it should run.

I don't know what it is, but I swear that running the game once before patching does something to clear up the error. This is what I recall working for me. If you have tried the Crosstie and my solution and neither works, please get back to me. Since I don't have DA:O installed at the moment, I'd be happy to repeat the process to see if we can find a workable solution. Let me know.

Edit: Hm, it looks like my instructions are the process I followed that was giving me that error. Maybe the successful thing was to install the dependencies, install the game, patch, THEN run. Either way, try and experiment with these and let me know. I'll tinker with it and see if I can figure anything out.

For whatever reason, this game seems really finnicky. Sometimes you install it and it works just fine, then another time its giving graphics errors or runtime errors, etc etc.

I was also having trouble updating my DVD install version to 1.04, although on linux but should be the same.

Heres what I did to rectify the R6034 error.

-Install via DVD using crosstie.
-After install I checked that game runs ok. Then
-I made a copy of winsxs folder cxgames/Dragon Age_ Origins/drive_c/windows/winsxs
-Installed patch to update to 1.04
-Delete winsxs folder and then replaced with the backup I made before

Works fine for me now.

...that suggests a component version collision with/within one of the vcrun
assemblies in winsxs. You could, knowing this much, work out exactly what's
going wrong by diffing the 2 directory trees for differences...(but there's
this bell going off in the back of my head suggesting this could be caused
by the lack of .NET 2.0 SP1/SP2 supports)...

Cheers!
