Hi
I am wondering how to install PhysX through Crossover Games 8.1.4?
With PhysX up and running, Dragon Age should get a Gold medal.
I played for a few hours last night and it works great in Crossover Games!

Hi,
The standalone PhysX package does install in COG-8.1.4 (I have a couple
of games that need it installed), but I'm not entirely sure that it's
working/supported in crossover/wine at this time...ie; the installation
may work and satisfy the program's dependency requirements, but that does
not mean it's actually working properly. Standalone PhysX packages can be
downloaded from the following link ;
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/physx_downloads.html
Be also aware that installing PhysX is not going to be a 'magic bullet'
solution to better graphics/performance - this title is subject to a
number of winebugs (and patches) to get it running better...see;
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=18283
Those patches would need be incorporated into the crossover winebuild
before we'll see any improvement here. Note also that the COG-8.1.4
release is still based on wine-1.1.25 -- by the looks of the WineHQ AppDB
page, this title started working better with the wine-1.1.3x series of
releases. The Crossover-Games 9.0 release should be based on a more recent
wine tree and things may just get better for this title.
FYI, the crashing you experience on high graphics setting is most likely
related to the performance/capabilities of your setup/videocard, and this
situation is unlikely to improve as a result of having PhysX installed.
Cheers!
I believe he's on a Mac....meaning its anybody's guess if it really works under OS X 😏
Hi
Thank you for your response Don and Abeta!
I am not sure what else to say. I am trying to figure out a way to get the PhysX to work as I am not sure if it does or not because of the installer that quits when it Ececutes: "D:/software/PhysX_9.09.0408_SystemSofware.exe" /q. As I believe it is affecting the settings so that I can only keep the Graphics Detail on low. Perhaps I am off, and I might be reaching, but I downloaded http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.09.1112.html a newer version of the physX software and installed it. Now there were two physX listed in the same bottle under Manage Bottles ->Applications. I could not start up Dragon Age so I had to reinstall the program.
I think I will just leave the physX thing for now as I don't really know what I am doing, and the game works well with using the low graphics detail setting.
In regards to setup and graphics card:
I am running a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo.
4 GB of Ram
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT with 256Vram.
I look forward to the next Crossover Games version!
Have a great day!
I think you may also have a problem with Nvidia 8600M GT card in the sense that I'm not sure it is specifically supported for Crossover yet. I had a link somewhere on the listed video cards at one point and the 8600GT is supported but I know my 9400/9600M on my MacBook wasn't supported yet so even if you get PhysX installed I'm not sure it'll work on your specific video card.
There was a thread in the Advocates section about Crossover probing the card and if it doesn't recognize it, it will use a lower recognized card. Not sure what Crossover thinks the 8600M GT would be 😉
