DRAGON AGE ORIGINS WILL NOT RUN. STAYS IN CONFIGURATION UTILITY!!!

Hi people. I'm new MAC user so patience with me. I'm a software developer experienced in Windows but still, new to MAC. I installed this game using the easy installation method that Crossover gives u when you open the Dragon Age Origins iso. file and Crossover find's that its a supported application. It installed four things I believe. If I remember well, it installed Microsoft Redistributable C++, Direct X, other thing called "Phy" (something) and .net Framework 2.0. Then it installed the game. I can open the game and I see the menu but when I try to click play, the game takes me to the configuration utility. It freeze there or SOMETIMES appears a dialog box saying that it is gathering my system information but it just stay like that or the bar fill up barely like 30% or less. I let it turn like an hour without success. It just freeze and I have to force quit. What can I do??

PD. My MAC have something strange. It doesn't appear to have "steam" folder under application support folder nor anywhere else. I know that the library is hidden in Lion, I know that I have to search it user level. I know it all but going to various forums I get to the conclusion that this folder was deleted accidentally by the previous user of the MAC (is a second hand computer). Now, I don't know if the lack of steam folder have ANYTHING TO DO with my error. Again I'm new in MAC but I'm just saying this as an extra info.

Now... anyone can help me out?!?!?! :/

Some help anyone?!?!!? :/

Hi, Samuel,

Since you mention .isos I'm going to assume you meant backups of your own DVDs. If that's the case then you don't need Steam installed in your Crossover bottle, and you don't need to worry about anything you read elsewhere about the "steam" folder.

I've installed this game on Linux from DVDs and from Impulse (now GS PC Downloads), so I can't be sure of anything in your case (installing on Mac from isos), but here are a few things you may try:

  • Typical problem 1: PhysX.

Try reinstalling it from the easy install on codeweavers.com (http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=7536), or getting the latest from nvidia themselves (http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_system_software.html). Then try the game again.

  • Typical problem 2: DA:O Service

Newer versions of DA:O (as far as I know) need the authentication service to be running, which sometimes is a pain to do in wine.

Edit: The way I get by is with a little script that I run when Dragon Age cannot authenticate my DLC. The script has two lines:

~/cxgames/bin/wine --bottle DAOUltimateImpulse net stop DAUpdaterSvc
~/cxgames/bin/wine --bottle DAOUltimateImpulse net start DAUpdaterSvc
  • None of the above

Let's try wine's debug info and see if we find something. Generate a debug log file, compress it, upload it somewhere on the web (like, say, mediafire.com), and post a link back here. There might be an easy-to-find hint in it, but if not maybe some of the ninjas could help. Instructions for creating a debug log are here: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/mac/mactutorial/submittechsupportlog

We could try to figure stuff out on G+ or something like that, if our timezones allow. I'll send you a Message.

Y si hablas español quizás nos podramos entender un poco mejor. If not, don't worry about it.

Finally a reply!!!

Sí amigo. Puedo hablar muy bien español. Ese es mi idioma nativo. Haré todo lo que me dijiste en el post anterior y te dejaré saber. ¡Muchas gracias!

PD. I will do all the things recomended by the last post and I'll reply ;)

Thank again for been willing to help. I installed PhysX again but the problem persists. I installed it in the same bottle as Dragon Age Origins is installed. Espero que ésa haya sido la manera correcta. I will waiting for you update about the DA:0 Services.

Oops. Sorry I could not reply sooner.

Seeing your error log, I don't think the DAUpdater Service has anything to do with your problem.

What video card, and how many monitors, do you have hooked up to this machine?

Ninjas, anybody else, help?
