Video Card Error

Hi all,

I bought the retail version, installed it (winxp bottle) with Crossover Pro 8.0, and it seemed to work. Joy! Not. Now I'm stuck at the startscreen with 'options', 'play' etc. and when I hit "play" it gives it gives a video card error, "This video card is not supported." I am able to open the configure screen, and it says:

"You do not have the correct version of DirectX installed to play this game. Please download the latest version of DirectX from here: www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx"

The version listed in the config summary is: Directx 9.0c(nov2007). I tried to reinstall the game's disc version of Directx but nothing is changing.

My CPU specs are: 1) MacPro Dual Quad-core Intel 2.8ghz, 6gb RAM 2) ATI Radeon HD2600 256MB.

I'm kind of new to the whole parallels thing so any help would be appreciated. I am dying to play the game.

Best,
Ryan

did you try doing what the following post suggests?

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6580;forum=1;msg=68833

awesome, thanks.

it got me farther than before...seemed to start but now im stuck at an all black screen with only a cursor. there is audio but no video. i tried to change the settings to "low" but the video tab in the games config utility is blank. and since i cant get to an in-game menu, im not sure how to proceed? curious...

Hit escape twice.

running regedit is as easy as pie

  1. open your crossover games configuration menu
  2. click manage bottles
  3. select the bottle were your game is installed
  4. click configure
  5. select control panel at the bottom click on run
  6. write regedit and hit enter

all done :P

on a side note, you say that you have a black screen with audio but no video, it this is when the game starts this is the intro video that does nothing right now its in .bik format and crossover doesnt know how to handle it well i think. if u let it run till it finshes youre game will load and youll get your game menu. just let it finish and youll be on your way to an amazing game.

look in your user directory, see if you can find the ~/Bioware/Dragon Age/Settings/DragonAge.ini file and edit the settings for the game there. You can stop the intro movies there also. Crossover can't play the movies because of the way glortho is handling it. There is a hack in wine to get them to work, but doubtful it will ever get into the source. No telling what the Crossover team may come up with though! Vote for this game as it will make a difference I hope.
