Every 5 to 15 minutes I get the following error message.

Program Error
The program DAOrigins.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

This can be caused by a problem in the program or a deficiency in Wine. You may want to check http://appdb.winehq.org for tips about running this application.

If the problem is not present under Windows and has not been reported yet, you can report it at http://bugs.winhq.org.

I force close Dragon Age, reopen it, and most times, on the first try, I can get past that section when I restart the game.

I don't know if the timing means anything. I'm I running out of resources? Don't know.

can you give a bit more info, distro, specs, and setting youre running in game?

About every 5 to 15 minutes (usually closer to 5 minutes) I get the following:

I running Crossover Games "Version 8.1.3 (8.1.3)" and DragonAge1.01b (I was able to update the bottle with the Dragon Age patch). Dragon Age was installed using the physical disc and not through steam.

My hardware is a late 2009 Mac Mini (2.53 GHz Core2Duo with 4 GB of RAM) running Snow Leopard 10.6.2.

Sound was not working after the install. Thanks to "Andy" on this site the sound now works for me. He said to do the following, and it worked. "Go to "/Users/%yourusernamehere%/Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age/Settings". There should be a DragonAge.ini file in there. Open that in TextEdit. Now scroll down till you find the option:
SoundDisabled=1
If it says 1 then just change it to 0 and sound should work! If it already says 0? well your problem is something else.

I'm able to set it to 1920 x 1080 (16:9); graphic level "high", texture detail "high"; NO vertical sync, NO frame buffer effects. Those latter two HAVE to be turned off or mine crashes within a few seconds. I have sub-titles turned on. No matter what the setting, textures blink kind of like a fire does. It might do it less often at lower settings but lower settings don't stop it from crashing.

Lowering the settings really doesn't change things. The game still crashes just as often or perceived as just as often.

Cut scenes do not work. They are black. Subtitles (they are turned on) do show and once sound was fixed I do hear sound. Kevin Engle with a Linux computer says they were able to get cut scenes working but he doesn't say if it was working from the beginning or what he did to get it working.

What else would you like to know?

im currently running it in wondowed mode with setting at the lowest as they go, and ive had 0 crashes since then.

check the dragonorgin.ini and make sure antialiasing is set to 0 that might help.

Thanks for the info.

running it in Windows mode wouldn't be that bad. I would just try to make it fill up as much of the screen as possible.

I tried changing the settings to the lowest while in full screen mode. Not worrying about the crashes for a moment, running it in the lowest settings is not how I would want to play the game. I'm a VERY visual person. The graphics don't have to be orgasmic great but really low is not good enough.

I'll try it in Windows mode and see what happens.

PS: I'm so visual that in 19eighty1 I had access to an Atari 400 computer with a whopping 4k or RAM and no hard drive, just a tape drive to load and save things to. As soon as I figured out how to do a simple program I started trying to figure out how to make a 3D game using line draws to simulate a hallway. With only 4k of RAM I couldn't do much but that was already where I was at back then. Baldur's gate was the first game I really liked because it was 3D, first person.

i understand i also im a very visual person, but honestly not to much is lost in low settings, u wont get pristine graphics but it does look well, and wile we figure out how to jack it up to full, i dont think were way off ive been researching the wine forums and most of them have got it running at full setting, ill keep twicking and ill post any improvements i get.

I just pulled up the .ini file as suggested. Not sure which settings to tweak, or what the numeric values mean. Any thoughts?

GraphicsDetailLevel=1 or 0, I don't have acees to my settings at the moment.

DisableMRT=1 for more stable settings.

TexturePack is up to you, I have had sucess with the highest, but it does run better with it at its lowest setting.

I have since bought the digital D/L Mac version and the game runs fine on my Mac Pro, so have not been messing with trying to get my PC version to work thru Crossover. Good luck and try to have fun :)
