Regular game freezing

Hello, i'm running Dota 2 on crossover on a 2010 macbook pro under OS X 10.8.4 with a 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 duo and NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB.

I've had freezing problems forever so I blamed my computer. Since the Mac version is way too slow and unplayable i've put myself to the task of tackling down the issue on crossover as it does affect my performance quite a lot. Here's what i've come to as my most frequent issues:

  • Someone buys the very first bottle of the current game.
  • Someone lays down a ward with a custom skin for the first time in the current game.

Each lasts from 10 to 20 seconds ( post-freeze suttering included ). It seems that it's just a matter of loading these before the game starts because it's is only the first. I've verified this countless times. This comes up at least three times per game and almost always at the wrong moment so i'd really like to solve it. All I need is to know if there's a way to make the game load 'extra' bits during loading phase and how to do so because i have no idea of where i could tweak such a thing.

I also noticed that the Linux version is slower than Windows version through Crossover for some moments like when loading the game or when clicking on "pick (hero)" or "PLAY" (after picking hero), sound repeats lots of times when this happens. I guess this is due to memory allocation of some sort. Hope they will fix this soon. Nevertheless I didn't notice exactly the symptoms you may described, maybe because I don't play a lot and may have not found this exact situation.

But I must raise the question: "Does this happen with native Windows?"? I mean, I don't think not loading textures before game start seems to be a Crossover issue, but a game bug. Maybe Crossover is taking more time than should loading the textures, but surely this happens in the moment as coded in the Windows version... or not? I mean, probably the game loads the textures just when they are used, but this is taking too much time using Crossover? Unfortunately I don't thin there is a way to tweak this to make the game load textures during loading phase, because probably the game only does so when they are really used (imagine the game loading each and every texture for every game item every player owns...).

Best regards,
