[SOLVED] Doom 3 and wrong amount of video memory

I installed Steam version of Doom 3 on Crossover Games 10 for Mac and it works well.

My problem is video memory, which Doom 3 reports to be 64 Mb. I have 512 Mb of video memory and I have added HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Wine > Direct3D > VideoMemorySize and set it to 512.

Any ideas?

Out of curiosity, is it causing any problems with the game? My advice would be, if it's not causing any noticeable problems, don't worry about it. I didn't even look at that and I played the game all the way to the end with no trouble.

If it is a problem, perhaps you should try assigning that registry key
to the actual doom3 executable (rather than for the entire bottle)

Thank you for your reply! I did this modification to user.reg file but Doom 3 still thinks I have 64 Mb of memory. I also tried replacing 512 with 256.

[Software\Wine\AppDefaults\Doom3.exe\Direct3D] 1298539545
"VideoMemorySize"="512"

So the thing is that Doom 3 runs extremely well, constantly over 60 fps with 1680x1050 without any lag or any problems so far. Crossover is aboslutely great! The problem is 64 Mb of memory forces to use lowest resolution in textures which is a pity.

What machine is this you have there? ...ie; model, video card/chipset type?

Machine I am using is mid-2010 MacBook Pro (http://support.apple.com/kb/SP582)

Hi again,

I had a chat with Ken about this -- the doom3.exe should be asking
wine how much videoram you have, and, considering you tried the registry
key and it didn't work, the suspicion is Doom3 isn't even asking =)

Ken found a reference to to the console-command "com_videoRam" setting which
is documented on the following page;

http://www.tweakguides.com/Doom3_8.html

[apparently there's some docs on the previous page on the site about
automating said tweak]

You might want to give this a try and let us know how it goes?

Cheers!

It works!

I put this line into DoomConfig.cfg:
seta com_videoRam "512"

And now I can choose ultra high textures and the game runs perfectly. Thank you very much, wohoo!
