I went to the download page for DirectX at the MicroSoft site. It wants to confirm that my 'Windows' is legit. Since I'm running on a Mac, that doesn't seem likely. The software I want to run has a copy of the DirectX version it needs, so I want to install that. Your instructions cover how to install from a download. How do I install it from my programs' CD (it's genuine, not a copy).

You cannot really use the Windows DirectX runtime in Crossover. It is way too much tied to the windows kernel to work on macos. CrossOver provides its own implementation of Direct3D, DirectSound and DirectInput, the main components. Thus there is only limited use of beeing able to install the runtime
Nevertheless, there are some situations when you want the DirectX runtime installed in Crossover. Like for DirectPlay and DirectMusic, which are much less tied to the kernel. Those work in CrossOver, and our implementation is more a Stub than anything useable. We hope to make the DirectX runtime installable with the next release, but it is not of high priority. Meanwile you can technically copy single .DLL files from Windows, but beware the license.
