Game installed from CD just fine. When I went to run it I could see the menus, though they were a bit messed up... the text was invisible until the first time you moved the mouse over it, ditto for the flaming Diablo logo. Also, menu animations would only animate while the mouse pointer was in motion.
However, once past the animated menu screen, the rest of the game worked a treat. I've only played a little, but it all seems good so far.
The one thing I've noticed - and I plan to test this further - is that it only works if I have Visual Effects set to Extra in the Gnome Appearance Properties applet. If I have them set to none, I get the black menu screens that everyone else is reporting.
So, environmental info I think is relevant:
Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx
Crossover Games 10.1.1
NVidia 9800 GTX+ video card
Built-in sound support
Desktop Visual Effects set to Extra
Diablo straight off the CD.
If you think any other info might be relevant, let me know and I'll provide it.
