Server Authentication hang

On windows when the server is down for maintenance it will say unable to connect error 3003.
on wine/crossover it hangs with no error.

you can hit cancel which freezes the game and requires alt f4 to close.

however if you get this problem check the blizzard twitter page to see if its there end thats the problem

https://twitter.com/#!/BlizzardCS

my authentication seems to hang even now that the service is back online

Mine is hanging during authentication too. Servers are up, i was able to logon with my Macbook.

The ptrace fix resolved my issues,

echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope

See this post for more details

Did you have any sucsess with your issue Mr Mentor?

If your running ubuntu 12.04 the above post could fix your issue.

if not please post back.

Having similar issue on Ubuntu 11.10. I fail to login with error message that battle.net is down for maintenance (Error 33).

Suggested yama-override does not seem to help. Any other ideas?

The servers have actually been going up and down quite a bit - might check their twitter account, etc., to see whether that's true now. (Likely not a CrossOver / wine bug ... just that no one can play Diablo III right now).

servers are down atm for 2h maintenance. and they went down yesterday too. its best to keep an eye on both the Diablo III Website and there Twitter page.

Have you been able to log in at all?
Also sometimes it takes up to a minute to actually log in.

As of this edit the servers are back up

Oh, strange that my friends were logged in and playing at the time then. In any case, it seems to have (partially) resolved itself, now it instead complains about missing Diablo license on my battle.net account. I guess they're still having service issues.

did you go to battle.net and enter the code for the game?
are you installing from disk?
and try this http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mfc42
has been known to help in some cases.

sudo sysctl kernel.yama.ptrace_scope=0

or

echo 0 | sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope
