Can I make D2/D2x work with 7.1.1 or give up?

Hi:

I would really like to get D2/D2X working under Crossover.

Can someone straight up answer if I can make this happen under Crossover Games 7.1.1 or should I just give up?

I am using a 3.02Ghz Core2 Duo intel Mac, 4Gb Ram, MacOS 10.5.5.

I have tried using the installer as an unsupported game in a Windows XP and Windows 2000 bottle.

I always get stuck during the install when it asks me to install the play disk. No matter what I do, it doesn't seem to see the disk.

I have read and tried the post that suggests: mount -t cd9660 -r /dev/<device name of CD> <name of directory you created>. The successfully mounted, but still it asked for the disk.

I have a bootcamp partition, where I have successfully installed the game under XP. The problem is the game crashes and is unstable under XP using the Apple Nvidia drivers (guildwars does too is there any better driver?).

So I have tried copying the entire Diablo II directory from under Program files on the XP partition, to the Bottle. This asks me to insert the CD as soon as it starts, which of course I have covered, doesn't work.

FWIW, I have copied d2music.mpq and d2xmusic.mpq into the bottle - in the hopes that it would actually not look for the CD, but no such luck.

Can someone kindly review this and tell me where I have gone astray?

many thanks
BRy

The D2/D2X discs are in a dual format for both Windows and Mac. When you put the disc in your drive and run it under Mac, the drive shows the Mac partition of that disc. I have not found a way to show the Windows files under Mac. With that being said, Crossover is not going to see your D2/D2X disc.

I have never had a problem with installing and playing D2 in Windows using Bootcamp. Did you check your video settings for the game? Try using the lowest setting. More than likely you will be able to download and install an updated D2 patch and it may or may not fix the graphics.

BTW, Apple released a patch not too long ago that put the 256 graphics settings required for D2 to work back into the operating system. I have been able to install D2 and play without any problems.

On the Blizzard website there are installers and patches for D2/D2x, that work fine under MacOSX. You only have to set the Rendering to Software. Doing this, I never had problems runnung D2x under MacOSX 10.x.
