The last time I tested the game's windowed mode it worked fine, but I don't remember how it was activated. An alternative is the virtual desktop feature in CrossOver. (Bottle config->start winecfg->graphics->emulate a virtual desktop)

i got it.
you only have to use "Run Command ..." from the Programs menubar an select the exe and behind the apostroph you simply add '-w'
the whole thing should look like this:
Command: "/your/path/to/Diablo 2.exe" -w
Here you can find additional suffixes...
