Darwinia did not display any issues when installed via the Steam interface,
however issues with sound replay stop the game starting 'as is'.
The installation procedure I used was this simple ;
- Purchase the game via Steam using my system's default web-browser (firefox 3.5.x)
- Install the Steam client via the cxinstallwizard builtin target (if not already installed)
- Start the Steam client, login and download/install the Darwinia software
- Manually edit config file as detailed below to workaround sound error at launch
- Launch the game
Note: Work-around the dsound error/crash at launch by manually editing the following file ;
~/.cxgames/[bottle_name]/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/steamapps/[steam_username]/darwinia/preferences.txt
Open the above file in a plain-text editor, and edit the following
lines so they appear as below, and save the file ;
SoundLibrary = null
SoundMixFreq = 22050
SoundMasterVolume = 255
SoundChannels = 16
SoundHW3D = 1
SoundSwapStereo = 1
SoundMemoryUsage = 2
SoundBufferSize = 256
SoundDSP = 0
[you might experiment with the above values to see if there's any
improvements to be had wrt your setup..YMMV]
Due to the choppy nature of the sound replay - only a bronze medal at this time.
Cheers!
