CrossOver Explorer - a new solution to some very old problems

What is CrossOver Explorer?

CrossOver Explorer is combination of Wine, the Gecko Engine and some advanced development from the hands of our developers.

Why a new browser, why not just fix Internet Explorer?

Many of the bugs within Internet Explorer (6, 7 and 8) are unreachable for our developers to triage. They are hidden deep within code that is not ours to debug. When any of the versions of Internet Explorer are installed, they carry a laundry list of dlls that are 'locked' with no great method to fix any problems CrossOver might experience with them.

Okay, that was too technical, what does that mean for me... in not-so-tech speak please?

It means that we have a product, CrossOver Explorer, that we believe we can make work with most websites. It does not work with a lot of them right now but with some feedback from our customers and some real world examples, our developers can improve it with every website they "fix" it for.

I'm interested, how do I get started?

First, download and install CrossOver Explorer with CrossOver. You can do that by going to the "Overview" tab or just click here.

CrossOver should have no problem installing it and then should put it in a sensible place for launching.

I've got it installed and it doesn't work for my site!

Great! Well, not "Great!" but we are here to fix it. We're going to need a few things from you and we'd prefer you send an email to ninjas@codeweavers.com so that we can get all of that information to our developers in a timely fashion.

Things we need

The website that is not working (if it requires a login, there may not be much we can do unless we can be set up with a test account)
A description of the behavior you are seeing and a description of what you should be seeing
A generic log file with no flags set and one with the flags:
+seh,+tid,+html
We have tutorials for both Mac and Linux systems that will walk you through doing this.

I have other questions!

Feel free to post them here or send them to our Support Team (ninjas@codeweavers.com).

Maybe wiki could be set up of sites that work and don't work?

A simple site like bing.com crashed CrossOver Explorer for example. That can be centrally kept track of as opposed to getting a whole bunch of disconnected emails.

Emails can then be used for "important" or "need site supported" sites only.
