3 - 20 minutes crashes "unreported error" New Macbook Pro

First of all let me post specs.
Macbook Pro mid 2009

2.86 Core 2 duo
4 GB DDr3
9600m GT 512 MB
500 GB HDD
1440x900 res screen

I run the game on Max everything 2x AA in 1440x under 900 (because its in windowed) i think its the high 800's

Either way, as the title suggests, the time it takes to crash varies from a couple minutes, normally maps like inferno, to 20 minutes or not at all with maps like dust2

The only other program I ever have running is Safari.

The error is an unreported windows error, however i don't remember what. (and something about a deficiency in wine)

I dont want to have to turn down the aspect ratio or settings ;/ but if i have to then ok

Advise?? Thanks guys

EDIT; Here is a link to a screenshot of the error in game

Well, I don't play this game. But given the usual behavior of CX and what people usually advise, I suggest going down with either your resolution or the settings and see how the game behaves then.

Take it as a kind of study to figure out the problem, not as part of the joy of gaming ;)

The error is quite generic, I encounter it occasionally as well with other programs. I suspect it relates to illegal access to memory (i.e., wrong area, out of memory, etc.) or some function...

Hm, well I hope that the codeweavers can fix this problem ;/ The new i7 macbook pros are supposed to be out soon, along with 5 series ATI Gpu's, capable for sure of running HL2, CSS at max settings on much higher resolutions. Would be a bummer to always have to tone the game down.

I also play competitively in leagues, and i cant have crashing all the time, but again, i don't want to have to turn the game quality down.

Well, you can't have the cake and eat it, or whatever the saying might be. But, sure, crashes in league matches are pretty bad.

I assume you had a look at the tips&tricks section?

Even with all the power you may have, it might still be that CX can't fully exploit it. It, for example, is stuck with 2GB of RAM as it can only run as a 32bit application. See here:
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=25;forumcurPos=100;msg=68090

So, just give it a try, not as part of a league match, but just to figure out what is going on. If you turn down your resolution to 1024x768 or (god forbid :) even 800x600 and then can play forever, you get an idea what the problem is. Likewise if you turn down details.

If you still get the crashes, there's another problem. If not, that's the solution. If you don't like it then, you'll have to figure out something else, I guess (or hope that future releases of CX behave nicer).

Hmm well i tried all that, went all the way to 16:10 1280 res, mixed up some settings, crashed. I uped the res to 1360 and it lasted twice as long. I have been mixing and matching resolutions and settings for a good 2 hours now and there are a couple things I am certain of now.

  1. Inferno and Nuke always crash within 10 seconds no matter what (MAJOR BUMMER. if there were two maps i wanted to run....)

  2. Dust 2 plays forever most of the time .

Rawr, dear crossover staff, what is happening? I assume its a memory issue since most forums and answers point in that direction.

EDIT; going to try some different launch options

EDIT EDIT; The macbook pro I have is my work computer, so i have to be sneaky about this :) I have to wait for opportune times to run the game (Lunch)
