It will often help to reduce graphics settings, and stop running any applications that you might have in the background.
Yes, if you're having stability problems in any game, start by turning the video settings down. A common cause for crashes that happen after some period of playing is the game running out of memory (or, more accurately, address space). Texture detail is a big culprit in this.
But probably the best approach is to turn all settings down and then slowly turn up one at a time to see if you can isolate which reintroduces the crashing. Then, turn that one back down.
posting ur specs will also help. Also make sure ur not running the game in full-screen, at least that's what caused my crashes of virtually every Steam game on my Mac. I know u might not like running games in window-mode but ul have to settle with it until CXG releases an update which addresses this issue.
There is a steam launch option, I believe it is -noborder that makes it so that you can play windowed without a border, which looks pretty close to full screen.
the "-noborder" launch option does not do anything for me, I have also preceded it with -windowed but that did not help either.
however -high seems to be a good one.
(setting your processor to give CSS high priority)
It is too bad that -noborder doesn't work, it must only be functional when running the game in Windows. As for the -high launch option, does the amount of frames you get increase at all when using it?
Edit: I tried using the -high launch option and didn't get any difference in my video stress test score, did you get any?
For me the -high option just prolonged the amount of time I could play before the game would crash.
Inferno and Nuke still cash almost insatntly, but dust 2 and office would allow me to go for a half hour or more with no crashing or very little.
No FPS boost though.
but i play on a almost maxed out top of the line MBP (2.8 duo 9600m gt 512) so i get great FPS at the highest settings, but it still crashes a LOT. I even turned down and adjusted many settings with no effect.
Hoping a future crossover patch can fix some of these maps and bugs.
It may help to limit the fps. Turn on wait for vertical sync, and type fps_max 60 into the console. Unless you have a state of the art gaming monitor, (in which case fps_max 120 might be more appropriate) anything over 60 fps is wasted.
vsync is always on in my games ;/
