Re: Any fix for random crashes?

I'm running a Quad-core 2.66 MacPro w/3Gb Ram and ATI Radeon 1900XT. I'm really just curious to know if the developers have had any luck with the random crashes. The game loads and runs quite well with almost all the video settings on high. A few minor graphic issues once in awhile but they are minor enough to live with. Just interested to know. Great product. I still plan on making my pledge on top of purchasing a copy of this program.

CrossOver 6.1 should have less random crashes. We still see them from time to time, but definitely less.

It was definitely randon. It happened as quick as one or two minutes into playing all the way to 25-30 minutes of playing.

Hi

I'm still getting random crashes when running Counterstrike:Source in windowed mode, however from (limited) trials I've found I'm able to get stable results by launching with the following settings:

-novid -dxlevel 70 -width 1024 -height 768

To put this into your launch sequence, right-click on CS:S in your My Games list (in Steam), choose 'Properties...' and then 'Set Launch Options...' - then simply enter the above into the textbox.

The game will then launch in fullscreen, and thus far has been stable for me, although I'm only basing this on a couple of hours playing without crash, as opposed to the 'somewhere between 5 and 25mins' crash of before.

The only problem with this is the resolution and graphics quality is quite low, however I've not tried tweaking this launch code, say by using -dxlevel 80 instead (which forces CS:S to use DirectX 8.0).

Is there an update in site that will allow me to run in a window, rather than fullscreen? I'm currently running Crossover 6.2.1 on a Mac Pro 2.8 8core with 6GB of RAM.

The game remembers the last "dxlevel" which you used. So, you can remove that part of the command line. That's a good idea because the game resets its video settings each time you pass a "-dxlevel" option, which is why it won't remember that you prefer to run in a window. Of course, you can also just add "-window" to your options, too.

I would also suggest that you try CrossOver Games. As a purchaser of CrossOver, you are entitled to CrossOver Games at no additional charge. Go to the My Downloads section of the My Account page on this site.

I would also suggest that you set CS:S to run at "-dxlevel 81" (the highest currently supported on the Mac) and see if that works. Depending on your Mac's graphics chipset, you may need to experiment with the in-game video settings if you still get crashes. For example, Nvidia GPUs tend to choke when Shader Detail is set to High.
