cxgames, Ubuntu 8.10: settings drop/font issue

Environment: Geforce 8800GTS (latest proprietary driver), asus p5b deluxe, c2d6600, ubuntu 8.10

  • CSS doesnt remember grafic settings (details, brightness, etc)
  • font in console is messed up
  • runs shitty when compiz is turned on, even if compiz doesnt render fullscreen app (I think this is old news)

For the Fonts , you could sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts
The proccess for installing msttcorefonts would take quite a while as it download the fonts..please do not attempt to stop installing halfway as that would cause a known error....oh ya..incase if installing failed...

try this site for fixing if install failed... yea..google is your good friend ^.^
sorry bout my english...lol

For the graphic settings....CSS really doesnt remember mine either....trying to find out why..

Oh ya...For the compiz part...you could try updating to the latest 2.6.28 kernels...they have improved GEM...something for controlling the graphic processing unit ( i use ubuntu hardy and the kernel from jauntys repositry) . i did notice a improvement when i upgraded my kernel..
Or you could run CSS in windowed mode using the command -sw in launch options...
For me.. i run most of the games (even native linux games) in windowed mode when i use compiz ...somehow or rather...compiz still crashes X11 when running fullscreen games...
You could always try other compositing managers like xcompmgr or metacitys own compositing manager ..though..it doesnt give you the effects that compiz does....Ya..but if you are short on ram just like me ..( i only have 1 gig ram -.-) try those...

you could also try to prevent windows manager from decorating the windows..
go to your bottle's winecfg...and untick allow windows manager to decorate the windows..
un-selecting windows manager from controlling your windows might prevent you from typing into windows apps..

hope this helped..
