Counter-Strike: Source Forum

I installed CS:Source using "Download from Steam." The first time I play the game, I get around 137 fps. When I quit the game and then come back, I get about 11-13 fps.

Rebooting doesn't help. If I delete everything then reinstall using "Download from Steam," I get 137 fps again. This is a hassle because it takes about 40 minutes to download/install.

I'm using a MacPro. The graphics card is a GeForce 8800 GT 512MB. I'm quite certain the issue isn't user error.

Please help!!

After the initial install, I run the video stress test and I can hear the fan on the video card speed up (the case is open). After I play then quit and come back, it's as if it's not even stressing the video card at all. I can't hear the fan speed up.

Are you testing on a local server or one on the net? Please try to reproduce with a local server and let us know what map you're using.

Have you tried changing the graphics settings? Does it make any difference?

Did Any settings change after starting up the game a second time..?

I have a similar problem. It is like it is stuck in software rendering mode. Restarting CS:S does not help, nor does changing the texture level or resolution. I know the hardware is not at fault since OpenArena (native Linux) still runs as if HW accelerated. The video stress does not progress after loading the first frame (or at least doesn't appear to--the game is still responsive to key commands)
