Resolution issue

Hi guys. I installed CS 1.6 on Crossover 12, works fine except for one thing: I can't go abobe 1024x768 in the video settings. The display mode is greyed out, so I can't select widescreen (my desktop is at 1360 x 768). I tried adding some parameters to the launcher, but nothing works, in OpenGL or D3D.

Is there any solution to this?

Thank you.

Did you try -w 1360 -h 768 ? Or maybe it was -width 1360 -height 768.

Yes, those were the first things I did (searched a bit on Google before posting here), but it's the same... Just to be sure that I did it right, I'm supposed to add these arguments after the launcher command line, right? After the ''.

You have to add them in the Steam command line options text box. Right click the game, properties, set command line options if I remember the wording correctly.

I don't use Steam for this game, it's not installed via Steam, so...

The only properly licensed version of CS 1.6 is available via Steam. Unfortunately we cannot help with incorrectly licensed games.

What?! I'm sorry, but I have this game on my Anthology dvd and it sure is "properly licensed". I don't need Steam to install the game.

Oh, in that case you probably have 1.5, not 1.6. I guess we don't have a proper entry for CS 1.5. I am not sure if 1.5 (runs on top of Half Life 1.1.1.0) supported widescreen resolutions.

There's also a mystery Half Life 1.1.1.1 and maybe CS 1.6 version that Valve released outside of Steam to make players switch and then they probably made it to disappear. I never got my hands on those versions ☹️ .

Finally fixed it. Here's the solution, maybe others can benefit from it:

Run the regedit command in the CS bottle. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\X11 Driver and add these strings (name and value, without the quotes):

"UseXVidMode"="Y"
"UseXRandR"="N"

If the X11 Driver key doesn't exist (like in my case), add it manually. The game works in widescreen now :)

Ah yes, that's the brute force solution. It prevents the application from changing the screen resolution. Works surprisingly well with a number of apps. Some just crash though.
