C&C First Decade C4P file.

image

This C4P file will install the C&C first decade. (C4Pfile will follow shortly)
Containing:

  • C&C Tiberian Dawn
  • C&C Red Alert
  • C&C Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge
  • C&C Tiberian Sun
  • C&C Renegade
  • C&C Generals + Zero Hour

Have fun!

I downloaded your loader to my desktop, but crossover won't let me use it.

I click load and nothing happens.

Says it is untrusted.

What do I need to do to get this software to run on my mac.....very frustrated.

Hi,

All c4p profiles display the 'untrusted' warning - it is safe
to disregard this warning and continue the c4p execution. Also,
you must be using Crossover Games for the c4p to work...if the
issue persists, let us know...

Cheers!

I am upset because when I went to buy crossover I didn't know whether to buy the mac - windows or the game version.

No where on the website could I find where it says to buy the games version to use C4P. Now I'm stuck with the version I don't want.

I want to exchange what I have for the version I need.

Hi again,

The installer profiles are app specific, not Crossover specific.
That is to say, if a c4p profile is created for a game, it infers
the usage of Crossover Games (because C&C is a game) -- for other
non-game apps, the c4p profile is created and set to use Crossover
Std/Pro. I guess this is why there's no specific documentation on
this ('common sense' prevails)...I will check the support library
later and see if there's an article pertaining to this, and if not,
add one accordingly (but that will be after Crossover 10 release).

As for purchasing the wrong version, no problem! Just send an email
to info@codeweavers.com explaining the situation, and they'll happily
sort that out for you.

Cheers!

edit: I forgot to mention you can download/install/register/use the
Crossover Games product with your current credentials - I imagine a
refund will be issued, but your account credentials will remain the
same irrespetive.

Thanks! I have loaded the games.

However, only 3/8 actually work.

Generals x 2, Yuri, & Tiberium Sun all have insert CD ROM issue.

Is there a way to fix that to play those games?

Hi again,

Hmmm...okay then, I've read the other forum entries here,

and it would seem some of the titles included in the compilation
still incorporate some form of DRM mechanism - this being the case,
wrt Mac OSX, you're looking at the following problem..;

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/cxgamesdrm

..and..

http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/dmca

I really doubt this app should be marked 'gold' ...what do you think?

There's also the distributor comparison table, (which I'll update in
a moment), and if the situation is that only 3 out of 8 (less than 50%)
of the titles included in the compilation actually work, my gut feeling
is to mark the DVD distribution as 'not work', with a note detailing the
facts, but I may change that depending on how the Ninjas view the situation.

The Tiberium Sun (and FireStorm) installments are actually available for
for free and do work in Crossover Games last time I checked...see;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=6038

Apologies if the content here misled you - obviously it's not of my doing ;)

I would appreciate your comments vis the current medal ranking and what
the distributor comparison table looks like...I don't have this title,
and so I am reliant on feedback from folks who actually have this title.

Cheers!

Well, I agree it should not have been marked gold.

The only reason we bought both the software and crossover was the gold rating.

The fact that the patch for DRM is illegal adds another reason why this software was ill marked.

Hi Thomas,

Look, I totally agree with you here -- 'we' (the Codeweavers Ninjas & other thoughtful advocates)
have been trying to get other advocates & customers alike to ~refrain~ from giving disc based
releases that contain DRM (that doesn't work in crossover/wine) a Gold ranking -- I think you'd
readily agree here, doing so just creates a misleading situation wherein you think the game works
(but it doesn't), disappointment when you discover the game does not work 'just like it does in
Windows' (which is what Gold medal infers), and to find this out only after you've gone and bought
the title (and/or the Crossover product itself),,,is, like, a very rude slap in the face.

To be fair, there is a bit of information to conclude it's not gold - but this observation misses
the point -- when you come to the Codeweavers site, you invariably search for your game/app title,
end up on the details page in C4 for the app/game in question -- and you would've seen gold medal,
c4p installer, and easily concluded it was all going to work 'out of the box', right?

It's just plain wrong -- the Codeweaver's Ninjas have asked for titles such as these to be ranked
no higher than Silver -- me, I'm a little more severe : I say these titles should be marked Bronze
or Known Not To Work. We have asked in the advocates forums, we have tried to get people to see
reason, but still people (including some advocates) insist on ranking such distributions 'Gold' no
matter what you have to go through to get it running at that level..and yes...that includes inferred
usage of possibly illegal DRM circumvention softwares ; this is wrong, it shouldn't be happening,
and lets face it...here....DRM aside, how on earth could one rank this gold? Seriously...(grrrr)...

The distributor comparison table was added to C4 only recently. It allows us to identify specific
releases of the same game/app when it's available from multiple vendors, and present same on the
single C4 page with a single overall medal ranking, but still provide some disambiguation wrt what
release(s) of the app/game that single medal may apply to - like I say though, this feature is so
new, that nowhere near all C4 pages have been processed yet...

Honestly, I'm going to give the Ninjas a head-ups on this thread -- this is exactly the sort of
thing that these 'fools gold' rankings lead to, it has already happened before, and likewise, I
know once the Ninjas do read this thread, they're going to be about as upset as I am regarding what's
happened here -- you are the innocent victim of a bad ranking practice (notwithstanding timing wrt
admin.dists), simply put....imho of course..

...speaking to the full of it, it's possibly only as a result of your participation here, that I
was able to update the distributor table quickly - bitter irony, but I really do thank you for
that - obviously, it may well help others avoid disappointments in the future - but, (and it's
a big but), look at what you had to do to get here, to discover the actuality here...that's not
good....when the Ninjas return to work Monday morning, I'll have one of them look here first up ;)

Believe me, the Codeweavers Ninjas will look after you with this - as it stands, one of them is
-already- aware of this thread, as the position wrt the distribution table entry was a tiny bit
polemical and I requested a review - they concurred with my judgment there. It still leaves
you with a glaring contradiction though, doesn't it...a Gold medal ranking, cited against only
one distributor release, that same release which is listed in the distributor comparison table
as 'not working', and the forum threads, this one included, all say it doesn't work either...
...or most of it anyhow...bleagh, it just doesn't look right...touching on 'impossible' <grin>...

I appreciate your opinions/views here - might I ask you for another? 'Bad ranking practices' or
not, one of the reasons things can present themselves like this, or in a misleading way (at face
value), is because there's an underlying ethos of trying to keep C4 user content/contributions
as open and free as is possible...and this includes medal rankings. Obviously, legal constraints
such as those imposed by the DMCA must be adhered to, but otherwise (caveat the fine print) you
can say what you want (within reason ;) and form your own opinions on how well you think an app
runs...and rank it accordingly. Now, that ranking may be questionable, and then the ethos of
openness and freedom applies again, wherein one is free to question a ranking, either by asking
in the forums and/or emailing the Codeweavers folks about it, querying whether or not a ranking
is correct...and this all works fine in practice, don't get me wrong -- I prefer open and free
compared to any alternative -- my contention is, apps like this should never get Gold, but
the moment we would think to enforce that, is the moment we give up the ideal of being open and
free ... hard line to thread ...but the current strive is to keep open and free in place.

Now that you appreciate the 'why' or 'how' this can happen -- do you believe the Distributor
Comparison Table, (as it stands today and had it been displayed to you at the time of your
purchasing decision), would have averted any possible concerns/disappointments, even though
the C4 page displays a Gold medal ranking? I'd be really interested in your feedback here.

Cheers!
