Renegade Install

How can you install Renegade? I am having trouble because the Installer goes full-screen and doesn't work, I have to turn off my iMac by holding down the power button and then re-starting. This happens with other games, but I can run "-dx8 -windowed -noshaders -dsound" commands on them. This however is a problem with the installer, can anyone help me?!?!

With me it worked fine.

Are you using WinXP bottle? You need to be using WinXP

And it should install.. insert the CD and it should come up perfectly.
Are you using Command & Conquer: The First Decade to install this?

Unfortunately, I don't know how to get your game to install. I just wanted to let you know:

If a program goes into full-screen mode and then crashes or hangs, you don't need to use the power button to forcibly shut your Mac down. CrossOver has a built-in mechanism to escape out of full-screen: it's Restore from Full-screen menu item, whose keyboard shortcut is Command-Option-Shift-R. Even if that doesn't work, then hitting Command-Q should quit CrossOver. If quitting doesn't work, you can use the Force Quit mechanism built into Mac OS X: Command-Option-Esc.

Adam,

Could you please help me with this. Are you using the first decade disc? I am using individual renegade disc...

I've run a clean install with all 3 bottles (including XP). No success.

I've spent $250 plus on trying to make this work and I know others play Renegade on a mac just fine...please help...

So it is installing? Let it autorun by opening crossover then inserting the CD.
Have you tried pressing programs at the top and selecting Command & Conquer? Or have you just been trying to find the file?
Make sure your running 6.2.1 (crossover).

With first decade it was fine. I'll experiment with my friends discs.

I am trying to install this in a WinXP bottle, yes.
And I am not sure what you mean, I have a 2 CD set for Command and Conquer: Renegade.

Sorry about the late reply! I thought I would be e-mailed if anyone replied...

Well, I know about the CrossOver full-screen escape, but it doesn't work.
And of course I know about OS X's quitting options.

NONE OF THESE WORK! The entire computer just locks up.

What happens is it goes into full screen, all I see is a white square in the middle (I am guessing that that is the 1280x1080 resolution), I start to hear the beginning music, then it stops, and it all crashes.

If you guys need any system info, I would be glad to give it to you.
BTW, I am using Leopard... could this be the source of any problems?

Also, I have tried installing teh game on a Windows computer [on to an external HD] then moving it onto my Mac and running it. It works, [with no shaders and what not] but the game still crashes every now and then... and I have to use GameSpy for it, so yea...

My problem is that it won't even install!
And I am using 6.2.1

Question -- Would it be illegal for me to download and use "The First Decade" to install Renegade? I mean, I have my own serial from the original set I have...

This sounds very familiar to the problems we were seeing with Aluminum iMacs running Leopard. The video driver had bugs which lock up the whole GUI. (If you have another computer, you can ssh into the locked up Mac, so it's not the whole kernel which is locked up.)

For us, this issue seems to have been fixed by 10.5.2 + Leopard Graphics Update 1.0. Have you installed those updates? If so, give it another try.

Ahh, that may be it. Well, I just checked Software Update, and am downloading the update right now, will try and reply as soon as I test it! Thanks!

OMG!!!!! Yay! I just downloaded and installed the updates, now the installer works! It's installing right now.

The sound is a bit, off, but who cares if it works right? Thanks!

Once installed I will post the results/status of Renegade for me up!

Alright, well it seems to have installed properly, but the game won't launch! I get this error when running it via a command...

The command "/Users/KuroRai/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Windows XP/drive_c/Westwood/Renegade/Game.exe" returned 1.

StdOut:

StdErr:

I have tried running it with modifiers, same result. The Actual WWConfig.exe works fine, just the game.

I am going to try some nightly builds, as well as a NO-CD crack [illegal, yes, but I own the game!].
Any suggestions would be great!

Ok, this is weird. After putting on the NO-CD crack, the game works… however for some strange reason, it still wants my CD! none the less, it seems a NO-CD crack + CD works, so yea. I am downloading the update and will put up my ranking asap!

If anyone needs instructions to install/play this game using the Renegade 2 CD kit, tell me!

Ok…

Well the game itself works, but for some reason the textures aren't loading, or at least not all of them. You can't see any buildings or vehicles, which doesn't make for good gameplay.

However this may be just a problem with my version of CrossOver/OS X or other factors.

For now this gets a Bronze 'til I find it better working.

As long as you don't install anything you don't have the serial for. And as long as you bought the serial.

I had the buildings load perfectly! I was using a Macbook 13.3" (£699.99/$1099).
The vehicles loaded as well...

Well with the 10.5.2 and Leopard Graphics Upgrade the CDs work, so no need to get "the First Decade"...

Yes, but are you using Leopard? Because for me, they don't.

I am gonna try out some other nightly builds, perhaps dx8 and what not, see if it helps.
If any one has any suggestions, or had this problem and knows how to fix it, post up comments please!

The thing is, the SAME textures are consistently missing, and that's over 70% of them. Methinks this must be software, because even the loading screen doesn't come up. Perhaps Renegade can't find/get to the files? Perhaps it's being stopped?

Yup I am using leopard.

Umm try not running it full screen if you can because that happens to me on WoW normally on Mac without Crossover. Are you using the GMA X3100?

I have installed it in the WinXP bottle and that went fine. But now I try to start it, and see the square box, but after that, nothing happens?

And when I press CMD + TAB, I do see the Renegade icon, but still nothing happens?
