a much easier, less buggy way to play the game

this game runs in Crossover alright, but it crashes a lot and lags a bit. If you want a lag free, crash free C&C experience, download the DOS version and play it on DOSbox, the game is freeware so there are plenty of places to find the DOS version

Thats correct. Better use DOSbox.
