Yeah, that would be nice :)
At the moment, installing menus and icons on the different distros and desktops requires a hilariously wide variety of unreliable methods. There's some promise that this will settle down into some sort of standard in the future, so I'm sort of holding out for that before I invest a lot of time in menus and icons.
Is your desire, here, to create desktop icons for items that aren't, otherwise 'desktop' entries? Or do you just want a cleaner interface than the 'recreate' button?
I actually got the idea from Yast 2 in newer SUSE versions. In Yast, it is possible to drag an icon from Yast to the KDE desktop and let it create an icon. It is probably also possible to drag icons from Yast to other places, such as the menu or the panel.
It would be nice if CXSetup supported this too.
