I guess this is because when you install Steam, msxml3 and core fonts are installed too. Good news, anyway.
Yes, the Steam installer profile takes care of the Fonts, XML runtime and DirectX runtime. Beyond that, the Steam version doesn't have a CD copy protection. This is the main reason why we only support the Steam version officially.
Is there any simple way of installing The Fonts and Runtimes without installing Steam? Something like Winetricks, I guess. Besides, is there anyway of installing a virtual cd/dvd emulator? People who are note subject to the DMCA could find a workaround not involving a patch. That could allow them to legally use their non-steam version of the software.
Yes, there is an entry for both in the CrossOver installation wizard. You may have to enable "Show service packs and dependencies" in the CrossOver options though.
As for the CD/DVD emulator: You cannot run Windows CD emulators like Daemon-Tools because they load Windows device drivers which are not supported by CrossOver. However, there may be Mac or Linux software for this job. On Linux, I know about a software called cdemu.
Thanks, I'll see what I find.
If you have bought the CD version, then start by installing Steam. When Steam is done installing - install Colonization from your CD in the same bottle at steam. To make it work you just have to add a no-cd patch.
