It works!

I was able to get Chief Architect 10.0 working with the latest version of CodeWeavers on a slackware 10.0 linux system. There is a catch however. The setup program does NOT work and fails...

Step 1:
Install Chief Architect on a windows machine.

Step 2:
Run it and register is on the windows machine.

Step 3:
Copy the contents of Programs Files\ART Inc. to the appropriate place on your linux system.

Step 4:
Run it! It should work without issue. It may complain about not having a particular True Type Font (I think it was Arial). You can ignore that error and change the fonts in the program.

(I have also confirmed that Chief Architect 9.5 and the Better Homes and Gardens Home Desginer software programs also work)

Hope that helps.

Hi chris,
very good news, did you have to cmpile a special kernel to run it or does it runs on a native slackware?

This is a program I am also interested in getting working here on my Mac Mini. I have been put in charge of testing CA 8-10 under Crossover and have the installer fail issue. I will try your suggestion and see if that works!

I was able to use this technique to get it to run under Crossover Mac. However, I cannot get the USB Hasp to activate. How did you get the Hasp working?

I have run the installer for it, but it does not seem to recognize the hardware when it's plugged in. And I am not sure how to force windows to see it.

Another update. I found that the installer for Chief Architect 8 will run fine under a winXP bottle on Crossover Mac. However, even though the Hasp drivers are installed, the Hasp still does not recognize. There has to be some way to force the bottle to see these drivers and load them. This is the only thing keeping Chief Architect (v8) from working on Crossover that I can see.

Chris,

very interesting for me, as I am thinking to switch to Kubuntu, one question tho: how do you do step 3 ? just copy the CA folder from Windows to .....?

Helmuth

I have installed Chief Architect (v10.08a) on my Mac mini by running the setup (?) program within the Chief Architect directory on the install disc - since the main install program wouldn't work for me.

On running CA, I also have it immediately fail to access the Aladdin HASP Security Key which I have plugged into a USB port.

I just received the following response from CodeWeavers:

"For us, the trouble with applications that make use of USB is that we would have to write a custom driver shim for each USB device, which is doable, but it's a lot of work for each app. As we see demand for a given application (and therefore its device), we'll work to make that device work. At the moment, however, we've seen little demand for any specific piece of software that requires USB devices."

I notice that there are 5 drivers on my WinXP machine associated with the HASP device, but I haven't yet checked whether they are present under CrossOver.

Has anyone tried the Client Viewer program ? I seem to have mislaid my install disc for it.

If the HASP Security Key access works for CrossOver on Linux, does that mean, that in principle, it should also work on OSX too ?
