C4P is not working - Solved!

This is plenty strange.

Can't seem to get the C4P to install Cave Story. All I get is "Installing Cave Story..." and absolutely no Details.

I tried running it into a new bottle, and into a brand-spanking new one I created by hand. Same results.

I'm pretty sure I could install the game by hand, but I'd like to get the C4P to work.

Why would it not run for me? How can I help?

Hi,

That is most likely because the C4P profile has not yet been updated
to include CXG-9.1 (it's currently set at 9.0), and of course it won't
work in Crossover Pro/Std -- you can change this manually in your preferred
plaintext editor - open up 7634.c4p and look at the top few lines -
you will see the product specification -- change that to suit which
version of Crossover you are using and save the file - try again.

If it's not that, then maybe the download link has gone stale..??..
let me know how you get on....

Cheers!

Yep, I tried all that before writing the previous post 😥

I tried running directly from the browser, saving the c4p to file then running it, modifying the version in the c4p then running it. And I think I tried all of those options in both "create new bottle" and "use this bottle" flavours. Still, no luck. I also checked the link and it's not dead.

I see a new version of c4p went up. I'll have to try that.

New c4p still doesn't work for me. Is there a way to debug the c4p launcher?

And trying to tun the c4p into a new bottle doesn't even create the bottle.

...hmmm.....that is very strange....no, I'm not sure if it debugs (Klingon Code - it does not coddle the weak 8)

Umm..lemme see...I still have the original, it differs markedly from what happens now
if you download the current C4P profile...this isn't something of our/my making, a little
something has changed somewhere, do you want to have a look? Go here and use
MVPWTkf28G to login and grab the original -- that still seems to work as expected here,
same for you? I don't know where the extra code is coming from (caveat installnotes - that
was added after it became apparent postinstallurl might not work yet)...I'll have to ask
one of the Ninjas what exactly is at play here...perhaps this has some hidden purpose
...then again, might be a bug 8)

Thanks for the heads-up! (seems I probably rechecked the old version and not current
one available, apols ;)

Aha!

This last one worked. Thanks!

What did you change in the C4P Editor?

Actually, I didn't change anything as such -- I merely deleted what was
there and re-uploaded the -original- cut ; the C4P system is still being
worked on/added to, so I can only guess something to do with ongoing
improvements somehow gurged the original...{shrug}...just have to keep
an eye open and watch out for these nuances if they manifest themselves...

Cheers!
