Error on Launch

I installed DirectX 9.0c and the game from the DVD just fine. There's a fatal error on launch, however:
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

there was also a Call of Duty Console window with the following:

----- Initializing Renderer ----
execing ragdoll.cfg from disk
----- Client Initialization -----
----- Client Initialization Complete -----
Trying SMP acceleration...
...succeeded.
----- R_Init -----
Getting Direct3D 9 interface...
Pixel shader version is 1.4
Vertex shader version is 1.1
Video card or driver doesn't accelerate dynamic textures.
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

Error during initialization:
Video card or driver doesn't support UBYTE4N vertex data.

The problem probably lies within the fact that CrossOver Games only seems to support up to DirectX 8.1 and Call of Duty: World at War requires 9...

Hmm im having the same trouble, but i couldn't install directX at all when i was installing i, and now i can't find a install for direct X

but umm the advocate forums are saying cross over does support directX tho so i don't know =X

What plaform, Mac or Linux, are you guys using? What GPU and driver?

CrossOver and CrossOver Games come with an implementation of some parts of DirectX (e.g. Direct3D). There are some parts which we don't implement, and for those it's useful to install Microsoft's DirectX. (Microsoft's DirectX won't interfere with CrossOver's parts; it can't because it wants to be a hardware driver which CrossOver can't support.)

CrossOver Games knows how to download and install DirectX for you. On Linux, you need to click "Show service packs and dependencies" in the installer wizard window to see the package listed. On the Mac, you need to uncheck "Hide service packs and dependencies" on the Installer Assistant tab of CrossOver's preferences.

I have the same Direct X problem. I have a MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz 2GB Memory

Same thing here.

I don't think that your graphics card is powerful enough to run it, this same thing would happen in Windows.

What are your system specs?

Actually this could be a problem for anyone using an older mac or a linux with Intel Integrated Graphics. (Lots of old intel macs decided to "take advantage" (not that I would call it that) of Intel Integrated Graphics)

IIG GPU's cause mass dispute with almost any game and when the problem was taken to intel this is what they had to say:

There are some tips in that link that might help but most of them are relevant to (dare I say it) Windows 😷

I had a problem similar to the one your having.Try replacing your graphics card, apply patches and see if that works then try run the app again. The game should run fine with the exception that it may lag a bit and that the sound doesn't work.
