Black Screen with sound

Hi folks,
me again... Well I bought now the retail version of CoD Black Ops, the installation went fine and the game starts. But the problem is I get only a Black screen with one thin grey line on the right side. There's no error, the game seems to work because sounds working (Intro). I have only one bottle for steam running source games like cs,l4d2,hl2,... and things like Mafia or CoD MW2. The curious thing all this games work like a charm, especially MW2...

Already tried:

 • UseGLSL (was deactivated for performance, no difference if turned on)
 • deactivate game overlay (working in all other games like a charm
 • deactivate game overlay in winecfg libraries
 • deactivate 3D effects

Any ideas?

Specs:
cxgames 9.2
E8400 @3,0Ghz
3Gb Ram DDR2
Sparkle 8800GT
Kubuntu 10.10 with latest nvidia drivers

EDIT: Reinstalled cxgames (thought a patch would have destroyed the possibility to run it). No changes, excepts that CS Source doesn't start anymore (which didn't after the latest steam update if you tried to launch it without one special patch)... Why does it work on all other machines? I'm really clueless

No one an idea? Tried also to delete the videos (friend proposed, helped him with WaW)... I just wanna play -___-

offscreenrenderingmode=backbuffer set in registry make any difference?

very good hint, thank you. But the game is unplayable with backbuffer (everything blurs somehow). You even can't see the menu (as would you need glasses, strong glasses^^).

Solution:
Start the game first with backbuffer
Navigate to the settings and deactivate AntiAliasing
Now you can start the game with fbo again

With backbuffer I have a very poor performance. With fbo I can play on medium, 1280*1024, shadows deactivated and AS on quarter with playable performance (more than 20 fps).

No I have a new problem. The intro sound works, the video sound works. But yes, the game sound doesn't work. No voice, no firing, nothing. Deeply silence.
Pulse is since two Ubuntu version deinstalled (causes big problems with all games in steam). Everything runs under alsa and everywhere else I have sound. But this should be the smallest problem.
