Game Freeze/Puls

So I have a strange problem with this game. Here is the info on my system:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP55.00AC.B03
SMC Version (system): 1.47f2

I am running OSX 10.5.8 with cross over version 10
The game is installed in winxp bottle.

So here is what happens. So the game runs fine until I grab the crystal in the basement of the first house you are in. It's next to the guy hanging on the wall. When I try to go deeper into the basement the graphics start to pulse and freeze when i move the mouse. If I strafe I am fine but i can turn around. It is only the graphics that freeze though I can still move and use the exit menu but I can't see any of this. Let me know if this makes any sense or if you have any suggestions. I am new to crossover so maybe its a direct x failure or something I just don't understand. Thanks for any and all of your help.

Okay so, I managed to get past this weird image lock buy just looking at the ceiling. However I am not running into the problem again when the people of innsmouth attack me. Needless to say can escape if I cannot see anything.

So this is what I plan on trying. I really have no idea what I am doing here so I will let you all know what works and what doesn't. I am going to install windows media player 7 into the bottle and a new copy of direct x 9.0c and see if this helps. I will also check for any patches and try to install those as well.

Hi. Sorry your having issues with COCDCOTE. Are you trying to run this in full screen or windowed? A couple years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember how I solved it. I think your oon the right track though. Try windowed. Let me know how it goes.

Hi...

....are you using crossover, or crossover-games? You should be
using the games version for this...

Cheers!

I am using crossover games. It is running in full screen. When I first installed the game, it was running in windowed but I couldn't get my mouse cursor to disappear so I changed the resolution via the launcher and it started running in full screen. I will play around with it some more.

So I cannot figure out how to install Windows Media Player correctly. I tried installing Windows Media player 9 for XP and the game just flat out crashed. I deleted to bottle and will start over. How can I run this windowed?

Here are some screen shots that I am getting when I try to install this game and Windows Media Player 7.

...I cannot find any reference to the need for windows media player
to run this title ; what leads you to trying this? In any event, you
can install wmp components via one of the 'Microsoft Media Player Sound
Engine' targets in the "Community Supported Applications' section of
the cxinstaller GUI....

...for windowed mode (aka. emulate virtual desktop) ... Crossover menu
-> Configure -> Manage Bottles -> highlight bottle in left pane -> click
Graphics tab -> tick the 'emulated a virtual desktop' checkbox -> Apply
-> OK.....

Cheers!

Hey thanks for the info. I will try it here in bit. If you look at the post above, after I install the games it give me an error message telling me that I need windows media player 7 or greater. I installed 9 and some cut scenes play that didn't before. However it did not solve the problem.

Okay so running it in windowed mode just makes my whole screen flash. So weird. I have no idea what to do. Maybe I will install the cheat patch and see what that does.

...which release of this game do you have?...ie; Steam, Direct2Drive, other?...

Its the original CD version. Here is a link to the amazon website. http://www.amazon.com/Call-Cthulhu-Dark-Corners-Earth-Pc/dp/B000EXU98G

Would it be worth downloading the steam version. I see it is only like 6 bucks.

..it would be something I would try, yes. All my digging
around suggests the CD version has DRM on it (which might
not be working on the Mac), and you won't have that issue
with steam .... for $6, I'd give it a shot =)....

Alright so I downloaded the steam version, it was on a super sale for like 5 bucks, so it runs better but still has the weird freeze/pulse problem. Any ideals would be a huge help.

...okay, for $5 it's worth looking at (I have another of
the series thru the humblebundles)... it's downloading now
so I'll post back with any insights....

...oh, btw...that model mac has a nvidia 9400M video chip, right?...

Yes it does! Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

Update:

..well, the game seems to run equally well on both my linux box with
w/ nvidia 9800gt/1024mb card, and on the 11,2 iMac with HD5670/512mb
graphics. If anything, I found the mouse acceleration to be a bit
zealous (making mousing jerky), but if you lower the sensitivity via
the ingame options it gets a lot better. I didn't experience any slow
downs ingame, except where they're supposed to be (part of the game
graphical presentation)...but elsewise I'd say it's near gold medal
stuff on these machine here -- and this was in fullscreen at native
resolutions (1680x1050 in linux, 1920x1080 on the imac)....
