I downloaded this game off steam through Crossover and ran it and it loads up the game but all the character models are missing
like floating books and floating glasses and shadows.

Most likely related to videocard.
Intel HD graphics all of you? Because it's a known issue for that. Works fine for Nvidia Cards in my tests.
I will put up a crosstie with some tweaks. try that.
