How I got this to work

Hello all,

I had quite a bit of trouble getting this to work and so I thought I would share what eventually worked for me:

I installed the Crosstie for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter into a new bottle and then downloaded the game using Steam into that bottle. I was also installing Ethan Carter at the time, but I'm nearly certain you can install the Ethan Carter Crosstie, but then use Steam to download this game instead without having to actually own Ethan Carter. Both games require similar software packages, and both use Unreal Engine, so I assume that is why it works.

Previously, I had tried to put the game in a bottle installed with just the Steam Crosstie, and even after installing the .Net Framework, and everything else I thought I needed it still would not even open.

I hope others have success with this solution.

Will

And another thing:

If you are using a keyboard instead of a controller you will almost certainly have to use the launcher and reassign the camera rotate right from the right shift key to something else, as I wrote about here: https://www.codeweavers.com/support/forums/general/?t=27;msg=175084

Hi William,

It's my first time using Crossover so I'm extremely confused as to what to do. I too want to play Brothers, and I installed it via the Steam client on Crossover. When I try to launch it, it constantly downloads some Microsoft .NET framework and then doesn't open at all. In fact this happens with every single Windows-only game, but the mac games open easily. I'm not sure what your post means so could you help me understand what to do?

Thanks

Hi Tannistha,

Sorry I did not see your post before. Try this:

-Delete existing Steam bottle if any, and start over.
-In CrossOver select "Install a Windows Application"
-Search for "Vanishing of Ethan Carter" (even though this is not the game you will actually install in the end, doing this will install all the right dependencies like .NET framework, etc.)
-Let CrossOver install Steam, etc. into a new bottle
-Open Steam
-Install "Brothers" with Steam.

It should work.
