Borderlands regular via steam

I went ahead and got this because of the Gold Medal, but it seems the game doesn't work? I launch it with my i7 iMac with 8GB Ram, Crossover Games 9.2 and 10.6.5 and just get a white screen, but I hear the sounds. This medal database is seriously messed up and needs to be reworked, I recently even recommended someone get Crossover Games and the Steam version rather than wait on the Mac version.

Hi,

There's nothing wrong with the medal database - it covers all distributions
of a title. Nothing here says that the Steam version works at gold level...it
says the game works at gold level (and I know of at least 3 other distributors
of this title besides Steam). It possibly -may- work on your Mac, but you'd
need ask for help, not berate something that works correctly.

Cheers!

I wish that were noted, that it covers all versions. I assume that it's Steam since it's (Steam) supported via Crossover Games, then again I did the same thing when learning about the CP4 install system, trying to install Trackmania, I was wanting the Steam version, the installer gets another version. I'm not berating the entire system, just that it needs to be reworked to include all variables, and possibly end a bit of confusion, sorry if it comes off as brash, perhaps I assume a bit much. You said yourself that there are at least 4 versions, you even told me recently that the medal breakdown list was even there, perhaps it was a little harsh, but it's still something I think that needs to be worked on. I suppose it's just the way the internet works, there is never enough information when people report stuff.

Hi again,

Steam is supported by Crossover Games -- that does not infer all Steam distributed titles work ;
these are 2 different things....A> the Steam client UI ; B> any game Steam distributes -- when we
say 'Steam is supported by Crossover Games', we are talking A> above (if anything else was meant, the
comment would have been "all Steam titles are supported by Crossover Games" )

As far as the medal system goes, I can tell you now I have been lobbying for improvements in this
regard for the greater part of this year....;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=3726

See the 'distributor comparison table'?...that's how it is planned to differentiate between various
releases of a title (where they exist), to better qualify the overall medal ranking. It's still in
testing but eventually will be available to advocates to use for such purposes.

This will hopefully alleviate the need for people to read too much....ie; I read through -all-
the forum postings for this title, and quickly surmised the disc based version has DRM which does
not work, and that Steam instigated a DRM system after release which would -appear- to have caused
problems as well. There is, imho, sufficient information here to arrive at an informed decision
which suggests this game may not work 'out of the box'.

My best guess here is that people who have the disc version (and live in jurisdictions not subject
to DMCA) have rated this title gold via legally permitted DRM circumvention -- the Steam version
-may- work on linux and not Mac (this happens, converse is sometimes true) --- again, the new
'distributor comparison table' accounts for this as well...look at the above page I linked to and
hover your mouse over the note widget to the left of the 'Direct2Drive' version....see?

As for your issue, it could be just a case of enabling emulated virtual desktop and/or setting
offscreenrendermode=backbuffer in registry and/or one of another half dozen tricks that might
happen to work....no idea....at lot depends on the videocard/chipset you have fitted.

Cheers!

I'm not sure why the disk with DRM isn't working for you guys, but I have it running without any major issues. I haven't updated to the latest version of Crossover, but with the mouse fix on two versions back it runs fine.

I understand that the Steam meant that not all files worked, I just assumed that since Steam was supported, that most posts would be geared towards Steam. I did read beforhand, and noticed the SecuROM, but nothing about the actual Steam version, so once again, I assumed! I do like that new system that is on Flat Out, I think that would be perfect, and would make my argument (once again, I didn't mean to come off as an a-hole, just frustrated) a moot point.

I have been listing my system as an i7 iMac, they only have one at the moment but I suppose I should go all out for the future, when they get more than one model. It's:

2.93 GHz Quad-Core i7
8GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB GPU
Crossover Games 9.2
Os X 10.6.5

I set it up in emulate desktop, and it starts, starts in 640x480, I can set the options, and start, but when I start game, I get a black screen and hear the music/speech that Marcus gives. I then get off the bus and the display is awful, so that doesn't seem to be a fix. I have a movie/screenshot of part of that if you would like to see, I can upload to my iDisk.

Steam release or?....

Nope, just the retail disk.

Interesting...many forum posts here refer to a need for DRM
circumvention...perhaps there's different (disc) media releases....

Somewhat confusing....
