If you run the game from Steam and don't switch to another window, you should be able to play just fine.
If you switch to another window, when you come back to the game, it seems to lose its ability to refresh the display. All you get is a white window.
Trying it in a virtual desktop might help. Or maybe even turning off the In-Game Community thingy from Steam. I'll see if I can give those things a shot.

Emulate a Virtual Desktop in winecfg and the game works as normal. It can lose focus, be minimized, and retreived again, and it keeps displaying correctly.
