USB Headset Audio

I have found that I cannot get a USB headset to play audio correctly in Crossover Linux. From the native OS (Linux) the headset works fine, but in every program I launch or the test sound feature within Crossover Linux the audio crackles and is broken.

Has anyone else seen this problem, and more importantly does anyone have any tricks? The sound tips support page from CodeWeavers provides only one tip for this and that is to directly output to the device. That did help.

I guess you are using PulseAudio...

PulseAudio and the ALSA API have some issues that make it impossible to reliably use USB devices with the ALSA compatibility by design: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/pulseaudio-discuss/2014-October/022043.html .

The workaround that works for most is to set

default-fragments = 8
default-fragment-size-msec = 10

in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf. It doesn't work in all games though, it failed for me in StarCraft 2. I hope we'll soon make progress with a driver that talks to PA directly rather than through Alsa.
