BattleField 2 works 100% Gold!! no issues heres how

how to get Battlefield to work with out any issues

This has been tested fully on Crossover Games 7.0

This ONLY WORKS WITH THE DVD version of BF2 not the 2 cd version so don't even try if you have the 2 cd version.

anyway

take your BF2 DVD (not 2 cds) - and just put this into your dvd drive and let it be auto detected by Crossover Games 7.0

let it create a new bottle for it and then just install it as normal

----After install--- Getting it to run----

The Digital Rights Management (DRM) software in this program
prevents it from running in CrossOver. If you are in a legal jurisdiction
which allows removal of such software, you may have luck running this
program. Unfortunately, CodeWeavers, because they are subject to the
Digital Millennium Copyright Act, will be unable to support you.

now once you have down that you want to run a command to get it running good

type the following commands: +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1440 +szy 900
this part(+szx 1440 +szy 900) you don't need to have that res you can do what ever resolution you like.

and then run the command.

And BF2 will work in windowed mode if it doesn't you haven't don't the command right. remember than if you want to run windowed mode you have to set +fullscreen to 0 don't use "-windowed" this will not work with bf2.

the only bug I have found is the mouse pointer disappears in the menus at the start but in game it re appears.

set all quality to high and you will be all good.

May be I missed some steps, but this doesn't work on my iMac.
I only got a black screen...

Is this using a mac? Or are you using linux?

Because I followed your instructions to a T and all I am receiving is an error saying- StdErr:winewrapper.exe:error: cannot execute L"+menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 1440 +szy 900" same applies when i put in the location of the BF2.exe.

The only difference is when I run this command with "szx800 +szy 600" then the only problem is it can't find a specific file and I get black screen.

I would guess this may have something to do with either the directX or the Nvidia requirement.

[Mac ; CrossOver 7.1.0]

Hi there,

it doesn't work, but it says: "Can't bind to root surface with no fullscreen content."

I'm using the DVD version

Any update on this? I'm getting the same error.

Ok so after a bit of trial and error it seems to be that this works for me if I have winecfg set Graphics -> Emulate a virtual Desktop ticked (I have it set to 1440x900 and then the game size to 1280x800)

Matt, could you please write a more detail guide to get things working?

I don't have any direct experience getting BF2 to work, but I can explain what I believe he meant. CrossOver includes a tool called "winecfg". On the Mac, it's accessible from the Control Panel tab of the Manage Bottles window. Within winecfg, there's a Graphics tab and a checkbox "Emulate a virtual desktop". He's saying that BF2 works properly when this is enabled.

The problem with emulating a virtual desktop for me is I have no mouse. It is "in the box" but it doesnt show up or move. I've tried multiple ways of fixing this but nothing seems to work :(

I guess this is a game that only works under CIDER (and there it doesnt even work as well but its playable enough to join a server for a bit) :/

Thanks for the info guys -

I installed from DVD (the complete DVD package with SF, EF and AF)

Started Vinecfg from within CrossOvergames, enable Virtual Desktop
Started the game and runs OK.

For the mouse issue i click on my desktop to get a cursour, then use that to place my mouse where I need to in BF2 and double click.
No mouse problems when inside.

A lot of work comparing to just rebooting...

Happy fraggin'

And one more note.. once I got online.. I quickly got kicked off as Punkbuster is not supported... remember to disable it 😊

I got it 'working' on my MBP (2.5ghz, 512MB graphics, 4GB RAM). By working, I mean you can play the game. However, it's laggy as hell. Any time you're in a firefight or shooting from, say a tank, forget about it. We're talking about 3 seconds or more in latency. I'm not going to bother trying to figure it out, though- I'll just keep using Bootcamp.

I installed using the 3-CD set. Install went fine, although it took a long time (close to 30 seconds) to recognise each CD after swapping it out. Onece the game installed, I ran the 1.41 update

. I also told Crossover to run as virtual desktop; before I did so, it would not even start the game. Set the resolution to 1024x768 and booted it up. Like others have said, the mouse is annoying, but it's easy just to click on the Desktop then back to the game. In-game it's fine. But that lag killed it for me. I tried lowest graphics settings, too- no difference. Oh well! It was worth a shot, especially since I got my Crossover for free courtesy of Codewaevers' giveaway. Maybe I'll have better luck with applications!

Paul Kerry, seems to me that you got it all figured out so please help me here.

I've just installed BF2 as normal,

hi,

you are browsing in the wrong directory - you have to go to -> "/Users/<you>/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/BF2/drive_c/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/BF2.exe"

maybe some folders are different, but this have to be the same "/Users/<you>/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/"

i hope you got it!

Same problem, like Tan Erdogan

Hi Guys,

I haven't been on this forum for a while

I shall answer any questions you have on this one I now have crossover game version 8 now I will have to do some testing

As far as I know it worked with 7.0 so yes I will do some testing and put up better instructions.

Cheers
Paul

eh...although it could start up with the cd in, it still came up with the error message. no-go. Think I might just use bootcamp, this program is frustrating me...
