Battlefield 1942 Anthology - Crossover not working

Hi all,

First off, I am new to Crossover, this is my first post, so bear with me if you will.

I bought Crossover and use it successfully with Steam and Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds (Those are both digital downloads). I recently purchased the Battlefield 1942 Anthology (to include the original, Road to Rome and Secret Weapons of WWII expansion packs). I was able to successfully install (i Believe). However, now when I click on the "play BF 1942 Secret Weapons" icon in the bottles, it asks me to put in the correct disc (same for Road to Rome icon). I have put all four discs in my drive and not a single one is detected as the correct disc to play the game. I have Crossover 14.0.3.

Has anyone encountered this issue and if so, how did you resolve it? I have the discs, I have the keys and purchased the disc brand new from Amazon, which leads me to believe this is a Crossover issue.

If this is not the appropriate place to post this concern, please advise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Preston

Yes, this is a CrossOver issue. According to your account info, you are on a Mac. Unfortunately OSX does not permit direct SCSI access to CDROM drives, but this is what many Windows copy protection systems are using. Thus SafeDisc (the DRM system in BF1942) fails to authenticate the disk. The reason for Apple's decision is not documented publicly, but we suspect that their motivation is to prevent OSX applications from using exactly this kind of copy protection scheme.

See if you have all game updates installed. Sometimes updates remove the CD check or make the checks less strict. The game is (or was?) available on EA's Origin. Origin may allow you to register your CD keys and download a game version that is verified using online checks rather than the physical media. Unfortunately Origin is currently a pain on CrossOver, but it can be made to work. We're working on improvements.

Bummer! Thanks for the detailed info Stefan. I've checked Origin and Steam before, but they do not offer it. So basically, unless I can get a digital version of the game, it will not work with my computer regardless of what I do with the discs?

Also, yes, I should have mentioned earlier that I am on a Mac running OSX Yosemite 10.10.2.

Pretty much yeah, there is nothing you can do ☹️ .

On Linux this works because Linux allows raw SCSI access. Theoretically OSX allows raw SCSI access too - but that is only intended for using CD writers, and only works when the CD is not mounted. So we would have to re-write half the CD/DVD stack of OSX to make this work ☹️ .
