Last week I've made a clean install in CXG 10 bottle. I've installed BG I and TotSC, after that I've patched it to 1.3.5521 (look for this here http://www.patches-scrolls.de/).
I was playing for about an hour... no crashes. It was in WinXP bottle. You may find a Win98 or 2000 bottle more stable for this game. I think the most important part is that bottl should be clean from any other software (just BG) and if possible it shouldn't be updated from previous version so if it is possible try to do a clean install and try it. If works then copy your saves and go on. :)
The thing which I do in fact is installing a Baldur's Gate Trilogy mod which converts whole BG I to the BG II engine and you can play it as 1 game. This is a little harder to do but you can google it. The easiest way for me is installing BG I + TotSC + BG II + ToB in CXG bottle, then copying it to windows machine, installing BGT and other modifications and come back with moded files to CXG. But you can do it on linux and mac without need of windows at all. In fact I've done it once on Mac, it was hard but possible.
More on BGT you can find on this site http://www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/bgt and its forums.
Hope I've helped a bit.
I think that was exactly it, I updated the bottle. I got 9.2 back and I did a full install on each game, so I'm good now but if it's the update bottle thing the yes that was probably it. Thank you. I play the GOG version which is fully updated and it runs perfect in a XP bottle, non moded, but I did lost my save because I couldn't find it inside :(.
Hey guys! Sorry to sort of jump onto your thread but I need some BG-related help... I'm new to Crossover and using PC games on a Mac. I'm trying to install TotSC after installing BG1, but the installation doesn't find the original BG1 directory (since it's looking for a Windows OS), and aborts the installation process entirely. Could you explain bottling and/or how exactly I can install the expansion? Thanks!
You might want to create a thread in here explaining this. I'm not a computer smart and I used GOG version which is both games in one, easy install. Make a new thread so that people that know will actually see the title and help you out. I hope you can get it fixed.

I don't know how GOG version works but BG saves should be in drive_c/Program Files/Black Isle/BG/saves directory inside CXG bottle.

What you say is very strange. I've never seen such behaviour. I have original 5 + 1 CD version (those CD have almost 12 years!) and every time instalation of TotSC is a no-problem one. If you installing to a custom directory (not a default C:/Program Files/etc) you should try installing there. But in case you do so and it doesn't work you may try installing to a directory which does not contain any spaces and unusual chars like 'C:/BG'. If this also doesn't work... there is a little possibility that your version of BG may be unsupported.
There are few known versions of BG which are known to not work (or make some truble) with wine or CX for example Polish eXtra Clasics Collection version (re-edition made by distributor with unofficial custom made ugly installer and as I remember showing splash screen with ads when you lunch it [sic!]). If this is (may be) the case I would advise you to try installing a different version of BG, for example lented from friend or... you know. :) All I can tell you - 5 + 1 CD version works without any problems, GOG version should work, some of the DVD repacked version may work or may not but should.
