Hi.
I try to run this game. I use the Tie file to install it. Everything runs fine. But when I launch the game I get this message : Could not initialize Direct3D.
My video card is an ATI Radeon 5700. So it should works fine, right ?

Hi...
*the crosstie profile is one of mine ; it was tested on
linux with a nvidia video card. As stated in the install
notes, the crosstie profile sets the 'emulated virtual
desktop' feature ON, at a desktop size of 1024x768. This
setup may not be appropriate for all systems...
... you need provide more information -> OS/version.
crossover version ; the exact model of videocard/chip,
and if linux, which video card drivers are being used...
.
Hi.
Here are the details. I'm using Linux Mint 12 64-bits.
I'm using ATI proprietary driver.
Tx.
... open a shell/xterm and issue the following command ;
~/cxgames/bin/cxdiag --debug
..post back the bottom-most half dozen lines of output...
.
Mmm, this folder doesn't exist.
I found this one : ~/.cxgames/Back/dosdevices/z:/opt/cxoffice/bin
But when I run cxdiag, it returns : "cxdiag : commande introuvable"
...LinuxMint does not have a compatible installation package,
which means you should have installed crossover using the 'generic'
.bin installer, but seeing as you say that directory does not exist,
I must presume you've installed crossover using the .deb or .rpm
package instead, which would be in error...
..please confirm the installation method used for Crossover Games...
.
edit: wrong, the ,deb installer is compatible with Mint, but that
does not necessarily mean it's the installer one should use - see below
.
Oh really ? I always use .deb files with Linux Mnt (which until now were doing fine).
Ok, I will uninstall Crossover and re-install it using the .bin files.
I'll let you know.
In the meantime, cam you explain why it is wrong to use the .deb file ? I thought Linux Mint was Debain based, and so, Debian packages were okay to use.
OK. So. I un-installed CrossOver Games. Then, Re-installed it from the .bin file. Then install BTTF.
No Dice. I still have the same error message.
Moreover, I still can't run the command cxdiag in the folder you mention (or in any other folder, no matter what).
...that is strange. To clarify what I said above, although the
.deb installer would have appeared to 'worked properly' for you,
if you look at the following page, Mint is marked with an '*'
for some reason, but the associated text is not evident ;
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/linux/faq/distros
...but that doesn't discuss choice of installer. In linux, the
choice of installer should be determined by machine usage example ;
that is, are you the only user of your linux system, or does your
whole family have separate user accounts on the same machine? If,
like most people, you are the sole user of the machine, there are
distinct advantages to the (single) 'user mode' installation type
offered by the bin installer, and this is the 'preferred' route.
However, if multiple users are involved, the .deb/.rpm packages
are more appropriate, as they provide a system wide installation
in /opt, which is available to all user accounts ... see;
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/docs/crossover-games-linux/install#install-mode
..did you invoke su/sudo to run the installer? If so, don't --
that will instigate a installation into /opt as well. I suspect
your system is missing the 32bit ati video driver libs, and the
quickest way to verify that is running cxdiag --debug ... do this;
/opt/cxgames/bin/cxdiag --debug
..instead ; paste back the last half dozen lines of output...
.
Thank you for the explanation.
I try to run cxdiag --debug in the folder you mention. Albeit the file exist in that folder, I can't run it.
cxdiag --debug
cxdiag : commande introuvable
Ok, so. The problem was not coming from Crossover or the installation script, but Gnome3 incompatible with ATI drivers. So now that I use another desktop (Mate or KDE), ATI drivers do work, and the game works fine too :-]
