Problems loading Asheron's Call.

I have been using Crossover Games for awhile to run Asheron's Call and it has run flawlessly until now. Now upon loading the launcer I get a error: The program asheronlauncher.exe has experienced a problem and needs to close. Then the launcher crashes. Any ideas? A day or so ago I got a notice somewhere that there was an update for crossover? I discarded and can't find it anywhere now. Wondering if that might be the issue.

Hi,

That's curious...(the app failing to start all of a sudden) -- just letting you
know that no Crossover update has caused this, you would need to download and then
install a new/different version of Crossover for that scenario to play out.

Cheers!

I am getting this same error now, but only since I upgraded to CrossOverGames 10.0.

I seem to recall it happening the last time I upgraded as well, but I can't remember what I did to fix it.

I just tried re-installing it via Cross-Tie and the same error stops it. This is at the login window, and the graphics for the login window do not fully draw before it crashes. It was working perfectly using 9. whatever I had before the upgrade. LOTRO however works just fine still even under the new 10.0 CrossOverGames.

Any ideas?

OK so I figured it out, for some reason I had to re-install Direct-X which was no longer listed and not installed by the CrossTie install.

It works now.

John --

Thanks heaps for the feedback -- I just looked at the install profile (for 9.1) and it doesn't actually specify that directx be installed ; this could be something that's now needed in CXG 10 that wasn't required in CXG-9.x ... Aric actually did the profile, so I'll ask him if that's the case. In any event, looks like we need another profile for CXG 10 that includes directx - thanks for pointing this out!!

Cheers!

John,

Where did you install Directx?

I am new to Crossover and am trying to get Asheron's Call up and running. After having the same problem you described, I also attempted to install Directx. But I am stilling having the same problem at the login screen. I installed Directx into a new bottle (an xp bottle).

I'm running Crossover 10.1 on a macbook pro (OS X 10.5.8, 2.26 GHz Intel, Nvidia 9400M).

Thanks for any help.

Keith

[Solution]

I had some trouble with getting Asheron's Call to run on OS X Lion... but I finally got it, so I thought I'd share it on here with the other 10 people in the world playing AC on a mac.

I'm currently using a Trial version of Crossover Games 10.1.2. If anyone would like to buy me a full version, I've got 8 days left,... then I'm gonna have to ante up and buy.

You will need access to the Internet to perform this install.

Here are the instructions:
-- Install Asheron's Call --
1) Download the AC installer
2) Install AC into a new WinXP Bottle

-- Install DirectX --
3) Configure->Manage Bottles->(Asheron's Call Bottle)
4) Install DirectX

At this point, aclauncher crashes shortly after it starts up. I noticed that it loads okay, except for the news information on the left is missing. The reason it blows up, I'm assuming, is because internet explorer isn't installed in the bottle. Now, if you have Crossover Pro or the bundle, you may be able to install IE from the list of supporting components, but since I am using the Crossover Games Trial, it was not available for install. I had to install it manually:

-- Install Internet Explorer --
5) GoTo: http://crossover.codeweavers.com/redirect/ie6 (it will download ie6setup.exe)
6) Install ie6setup.exe into the Asheron's Call Bottle.
6.a) Note: If it looks like it's not doing anything, let it run its course. It may take 5 to 10 minutes before it gives up and asks you to retry. When I clicked "retry" it installed properly. -- DO NOT CANCEL THE INSTALL,... unless it's been like 20/30 minutes. Then I'd be worried.

The aclauncher should now work.

Enjoy.

P.S. I'm pretty sure these are the only core components necessary to run AC. I installed a lot of other crap (xml parsers, etc) that I don't think are entirely necessary, I was just trying to get the html to load in the launcher. Anyway, I do know for a fact that the Internet Explorer install is a critical requirement and was the final piece to getting this to work. If you have any trouble getting it to work, here's a complete list of the components I have installed in my AC bottle... though, again, it's highly likely that the majority of them are unnecessary.

Asheron's Call
Asheron's Call Versions
Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty
Asheron's Call: Throne of Destiny
DirectX 9
Internet Explorer 6
Microsoft DirectX Runtime - Modern
Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 6 (may be a part of the IE Install)
Microsoft XML Parser
Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0
msls31 (may be part of the IE Install)
TrueType fonts -- not listing them all here...
Windows OLE Components (HIGHLY doubt that this is necessary... I don't think there's any OLE action going on)
Windows Script 5.6 (JScript only)
Windows Script 5.6 (VBScript only)

To clarify, the reason IE doesn't show up in the install list has nothing to do with it being a trial. IE is only included in CrossOver Standard/Professional. It's not in Games. However, there is the CrossOver HTML Framework under supporting software which will correct the crashing issue. Unfortunately that component does not allow the actual embedded webpage on the AC Launcher to load correctly the last time I tested it. Downloading and running the IE installer manually is the best option.

You can use Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 6 to the same ends ;
the target is in the 'Community Supported Applications' area
of the cxinstaller GUI..

Just FYI, I installed via tie today into CrossOver 11.1.0.26122 and I had the same issue, needing to add DirectX 9 to the bottle. That still didn't work so I went to Community Supported Applications and added "Microsoft HTML Rendering Engine 7", and things worked from there.
