GOG version help

I bought the GOG version and I can't play it. I did what it said on the tips and tricks but the commands I failed doing that some kind of error popped up. the game runs normal until the main menu starts, I can't put points on my character at all, as soon as I put them the game does double click and takes it off and the first conversation the screen looks really messed up and I can't do nothing except exit. Please help on how to install the game to run. I'm using a macbook pro with cxg 9.2. Thanks.

Hi, Juan! A few things:
1) Can you tell me what the error said?
2) Can you get a screenshot of the messed up screen?
3) Can you run a log? Go to 'programs' on the menu and 'run program'. Select the arcanum bottle and then search for the exe. Check the box 'create log file'. You don't need to print the whole log because we won't need most of it and I won't understand most of it. However, often you can see one thing that repeats itself, or one thing that gives an error. If you can find one specific thing, post it up.

Look at THIS conversation. It applies to the CD version, but there might be information in there to help you get your version running too.

I've had a similar problem with my GoG version on a similar setup. Ran the log file and the things that seemed to stick out were:

"fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33f670,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:swapchain_init Add OpenGL context recreation support to context_validate_onscreen_formats"

and

"fixme:dinput:SysMouseAImpl_Acquire Clipping cursor to (0,0)-(800,600)
err:d3d:wined3d_unregister_window Window 0x1005e is not registered with wined3d."

all others seemed sound related, which didn't seem to be an issues as the speech and music seemed to be working well without glitch. Any ideas as to what this could mean? At this stage I'm about out of my league in decoding what I should do....

Hello Juan and Peter,

It sounds to me like you need to tell the installation to run without 3D acceleration (this should not represent a performance hit on your machine). Before you run the game complete the following steps from my installation guide for Crossover 6.2.1 (I don't know if the Run Command window has changed or changed location -- if so I hope crispy will pop in and clarify):

  1. Browse to the Arcanum folder, and select Arcanum.exe. In the Run Command window, right after the command which is now enclosed in quotes, add these two flags with no quotes around them: -no3d -doublebuffer

On my system this command looks like this:

"/Users/myaccount/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Arcanum/drive_c/Sierra/Arcanum/Arcanum.exe" -no3d -doublebuffer

The path will be a little different on your machine so don't copy and paste my command.

  1. Click the "Save command to programs menu" button. With luck you will see a new alias populate your Programs folder in the Finder. You can now play Arcanum by clicking the "Run" button in the command window, or you can cancel and just select the new alias from your Crossover Programs menu. Before playing, you will probably want to increase your mouse tracking speed in the System Preferences so that the Arcanum mouse isn't too slow.
