GoG version not working properly :(

Hello,

I've been having some problems getting the GoG version of Arcanum to install using cxg 10.0.1. I'm running it on a macbook pro with os x 10.6.4.
I followed the instructions on the CD install link that was posted on here as closely as possible, and installed both the english patch and unofficial patch. It seems to load fine, video runs ok but then when it gets to the menu screen it takes a while before the mouse cursor appears. The mouse then moves really jerkily. When starting a new character the starts menu is basically unusuable as the mouse doesn't seem to respond well and any clicks results in a very blotchy screen. Then when the game eventually starts up the first conversation on the map is really screwed up - scrolling around results in a very blotchy and squared lag, and the mouse cursors cannot be seen on the main playing screen, only on the top bar or in the bottoms skills bar. This unfortunately essentially renders the game completely unplayable :( any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Peter,

I made a suggestion about what the fix for this might be in the other thread started by Juan, see if it works for you.

Hi,

I've just recently tried to get Arcanum running on my Macbook Pro with Crossover. I followed all the steps outlined by Halle in the 'tips and tricks' section (installed game, added .dat files, installed official patch, installed unofficial patch, created -no3d -doublebuffer alias), however, I still can't get the game to work. When I run in the fullscreen mode the game is incredibly glitchy and slow to the point of being completely unplayable, but when I try running it with the -no3d alias a black screen comes up, flickers a bit, then crashes to the desktop with no error message at all. I've tried following all these steps on both a Win2000 and an XP bottle, and both do the same thing. I've searched all the forums I could possibly find on the internet, and though other people have reported the same problem, all replies just refer back to the original installation guide which I've already followed. I don't know what else I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Jason

Hi, Jason! First: are you using the GOG version or the CD?

Second, have you tried running a log to see what's missing? Go to programs, run command. Select the bottle for Arcanum. Then browse to the exe. Click the little check box to save a notepad file of the log file (create log file). Run. Look at the log in notepad and look for anything that looks out of place. I know that's really general, but each log is different so it's hard to say what it might be. For example, my Mac don't like FBO so I have to backbuffer the OffScreenRenderingMode. Let me know what comes up.

Hi Crispy,

Thanks for the reply. I was worried no one monitored this forum anymore. I'm using the cd version, though I installed it off the cd images on my hard drive. I just posted my message on the GOG thread since the others were locked.

Here's what the log file said:

Starting '/Applications/CrossOver.app/Contents/SharedSupport/CrossOver/bin/wineloader' 'winewrapper.exe' '--start' '--'
'/Users/jasoncharbonneau/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Jason XP Bottle/drive_c/Sierra/Arcanum/Arcanum.exe' '-no3d' '-doublebuffer'

fixme:exec:SHELL_execute flags ignored: 0x00000100
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33f5a4,0x00000000), stub!

I hope you can make more sense of this than I can!

Thanks again,

Jason

Well, if you're running the CD version, it should work, since that's what I used. Check the tips and tricks carefully to make sure you followed the advice. Make sure you have the relevant updates.

Did you get all the right patches to play it?

Hello again,

Okay, turns out I'm a fool. I was using Crossover rather than crossover games. I didn't notice at first, but once I figured it out I didn't really think it would make a difference. Anyway, thanks for responding, and sorry to have bothered you.

I'm just stoked to finally be able to play this amazing game!

Jason

Whoops, a bit late here but I'm happy to hear that it's working now. Thanks crispy!
