Kindle for PC v1.3 works with Wine version 1.3.7

Head to winehq.org and download the latest Wine version 1.3.7 (haven't tried 1.3.8)

You should then be able install Kindle for PC without problems or work arounds needed.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 and it works like a charm :)

I gave up trying to get it to work with my CrossOver v9.1

and I used the default XP bottle...

Hi,

I think those changes will get rolled into Crossover 10
if the world smiles upon us...

Cheers!

Tested in cx10 beta1 and it works as expected. winxp bottle and no other installation

Tried this with cx10 beta1, on Fedora 14 x86_64 and while installing with the latest installer works fine, I am having problem logging in:

"Unable to connect at this time.
Please try again later."

When running KindleForPC.exe with wine --verbose, I get the following errors

fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW INTERNET_OPTION_SEND/RECEIVE_TIMEOUT 30000
err:wininet:NETCON_secure_connect SSL_connect failed: 12157
fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33d528

which, when Googling, looks similar to this problem people have been having since 1.1.x with Audible and Miranda and HTTPS:

Audible works perfectly for me, but with Kindle the authentication, refresh, etc is so slow. Also in my company (behind a proxy) it doesn't authenticate at all. Only works at home

I find starting from a flesh install solves many issues. What is your configuration?

I am testing in a fresh installation of CX10 beta1,and kindle in an Ubuntu 10.10 box without any proxy and the program works perfectly. Registers, download books, etc

In my case the problem is when i am behind a proxy, without the proxy everything is ok.

Also when it works is in a Ubuntu 10.10 32bits without proxy and it doesn't work behind a proxy and openSuse 11.3 64bits. Maybe the problem is 64bits

I suspect that too; and reported it in the bug report. Will retry with beta2 this weekend.

Works fine on CX 10 final -- apart from the home view's background being rendered uniformly in black!
