I have tested the current Kindle for PC version (1.4.1, build 31629) and found no problems.
OS details:
Debian Squeeze amd64
Crossover Linux Pro 10.0.0
"Default" Windows XP bottle
No other software added, just created the bottle and installed the program.
No tweaks or configuration was necessary. It "just works" - including DRM'ed books.
Very good! Did you use the crosstie?
I did not, I'm not familiar with it at all.
EDIT: aah, I see. No, I'm not interested in CrossTie at all.

With this version I was able to connect even trough a proxy. crosstie updating in progress...
